I am starting a lil side project aside from my primary and figured I start producing content.
While I have been working production for a few years, this is my first time entering this territory. The concept will be an homage to the days of the messy wrestling circuit of the 1980's and 1990's such as The Hollywood Tropicana and similar productions.
I presently have studio spaces secured in both Boston and Providence, RI and the ring is being built as we speak.
My question however is geared towards the producers here who have been doing this for a spell. How did you all start? How hard was it to find models and what worked best for you?
I started by accident. I had been shooting raver porn for a long time. eventually somebody asked if I would shoot ravers making a mess with cake. The rest is history.

HA! Awesome! You and my lil brother would click right off the bat. He's a DJ and and masterful one at that who performs at many a raves in his off time. I'm actually transposing some of his work in Ableton Live and running it against click so I can add percussion and drums in Protools.
and for the record, by accident is never a bad thing. Thanks for sharing, sir!
Been shooting WAM for 17 years now. Something I'd always wanted to do but only became possible when I met Lady Jasmine by chance in an alternative nightclub. Was always open about what we were doing, so friends knew, and gradually other girls who liked the idea of playing in gunge got in touch. I've never actually had to advertise, it's all been word of mouth.
As for what works best, total honesty, all the way. Be straight up that it's fetish work and customers will wank to it. But at the same time, be 100% professional, never "react" to anything while filming it and keep all comments (even encouraging ones) professional and non-sexual.
After a day's shooting, take the models to a decent restaurant dinner on the house. They've spent the day getting cold and wet for you and your customers' sexual pleasure, good hot food is a great way to finish off the day. I tend to pay my people by bank transfer between ordering and the food arriving, so they get fed and richer at the same time.

Absolutely love this!
I'm professional by the nature of my real profession so the comments I usually make (I've produced for various other projects in the past), are strictly in accordance to the work at hand and vision we're trying to create (that and to be honest, I will be WAY too busy multitasking to enjoy much of anything :bahaha.
I do love the idea of taking them out to dinner as a special "thank you" for entrusting me with this project and I thought about it but worried whether or not it would be appropriate, so a huge Thank you for the affirmation!
I started not long after I discovered Messy Fun and thought I could do as well or better (on the pie side of things, not MF's general wam quality). My first shoot was in my house (two 8mm cameras, 3 lights, a painted backdrop, some sexy wardrobe choices (dresses, panties, petticoats) and one super pretty model (Tabitha) whom I connected with via an short classified (acting gigs/talent/models) in the local weekly (she also had pictures on a few web sites showcasing many other models).
That worked well for a bit, then the Internet expanded hugely and craigslist became the 'go to' platform/resource for finding models. I got out of the 'biz' before craigslist solidified its sketchy/skeevy reputation and other modeling sites (model mayhem) became the primary (and more trustworthy) resources for models. But you can still get models on CL (usually young and inexperienced, so, it's important to be courteous and build trust with them).
Using semi-pro/pro-modeling sites is probably the best way to go nowadays (plus word-of-mouth; models know other models). Also: producers with sometimes refer models to other producers.
My camera image quality also got better over time (Hi-8mm to mini-dv, then finally HD) and my lighting as well (high wattage/full spectrum LED light boxes, soft filters, etc.).
As for payment: I always paid in cash (at end of shoot, and after signing the image release form and getting a copy of their photo ID). Payment included time for showering (which is a mandatory part of the model's time).
