So, I've made a few mud-pits (this would be my 5th mud-pit), and I've learned a few things about mud-pits. I won't go into all of the lessons I've learned, but one of them is that you can't "stir" the pit below the depth where you still have some "grip". By that I mean, if a body floats in the mud at about nipple deep, you're not going to be applying much influence to the mud at that depth, because you no longer have any weight.
So, I made this last mud-pit about like a deep bath-tub. It's about 2 ft (60 cm) deep 3 ft (90 cm) wide, and 6 ft (1.8 m) long. I also had to limit the size so that I'd have enough good mud to fill it. One cubic meter of mud (approx) is a lot of material.
Yesterday, I wanted to get immersed in my new mud-pit. If I just lie in the mud-pit, like it's a bathtub, I float pretty well, so it is nearly impossible to pull myself under. I installed an anchor point at the bottom of the pit to help pull myself down and hold me there. So, I started out with my genitals tied to the anchor point and pulled down as deep as I could pull myself. Then I had my ankles hoisted upward, so I would have to lie back in the mud.
I struggled with that for more than 30 minutes before I loosened the rope holding me down by my genitals so my hips could go higher. I retied it when my hips were just at the surface of the mud, and I hoisted my ankles higher so the rope from my genitals to the bottom of the pit was taught.
That gave me the right position so that my upper body and head could naturally sink below the surface of the mud. All I had to do was wriggle a bit to speed up my descent. Once I was under, it wasn't easy to come back up. My position and the thick mud made it delightfully difficult to resurface.
The bad news is that it was getting darker, so my video was badly underexposed, and only one of my cameras had a good view of the action, and that one had a very tight framing. In most of the video captures I'm attaching to this post, you're looking at the back of my thighs, and my upper body is mostly immersed in the muck. In one image, I've loosened the rope holding me down and turned over, in an attempt to escape the mud. I'm still hanging by my ankles, but I am face down and arched backwards.
Sorry about the image quality. I hope someone finds this interesting. I know I had a good time struggling in the thick mud.
p.s. If you try something like this, don't assume you'll be able to reach or untie any knots. Be sure you have a cutting tool and a clear escape plan.
Always good to get educated info on dealing with muddy situations. Male or Female it's a physics problem that you have to be careful with. Very important that you mentioned to always have a plan to get out. Even with a full crew in an often repeated situation we always discuss this ahead of time. Good luck.
