Dont know about mud, but I know milk helps sunburns. I've taken a couple of milk baths when I had plenty of milk in the fridge and no way to access aloe vera.

My mom made me use yogurt on a severe sunburn when I was a teenager. She's a pediatric nurse and says the milk protein and the active cultures are really good for helping to heal the skin and prevent infections. So dump buckets of yogurt all over your body
Slippery aloe is great for a sunburn. Mud ,I think would be too grainy, too abrasive. Even applying it gently. Once, shortly after my wife and I got married i sprained my finger pretty badly so I soaked it in cider.
