Hi guys! I have a question about ratios for mixing clay. I have a big session I'm flying to LA for. We were originally planning on using 50lbs of bentonite powder, but I realized that bentonite was quite slippery and not clingy, so we ordered 50lbs of red earthenware that's moist. Was just wondering what ratio these should be mixed at (along with water) to create something that's super thick and also very clingy and sticky
between 1% and 2% bentonite to the overall clay body; adding too much bentonite can cause excessive shrinkage and cracking during drying, so it's best to use only a small amount to enhance plasticity without causing

What if we aren't reusing this clay afterwards? Also any tips for how this should be mixed and how long it should sit for?
Get an accurate digital scale (parts of a gram), and mix up a bunch of batches at different ratios, and different amounts of water. Leave overnight and test the consistency.
This'll let you see how the ratio changes the mix, so you can adjust your big batches according.
Bentonite can take 24hrs to soak up water, so your mix will thicken overnight.
