I feel like I know of a couple of messy supply stores in the UK like Messy Pup Gunge and Messy Supplies (I would LOVE to try their avalanche foam btw), but I don't know of that many in the USA. At the very least I don't know any that aren't exclusively slime based like Splatter Emporium. Is there a hidden gem that I have been missing this whole time?
Idk if this is exactly what you mean, but I would suggest restaurant supply stores. Most of them don't require a membership or anything and you can get industrial sizes of items like chocolate, pudding, other dessert items etc. That's where I would go to stock up on supplies for sessions/videos. Though pie crusts seem to be cheaper at big box stores like Walmart.
MessySupplies and MuckyPup sell 'gunge powder' in varying flavours, which essentially boils down to a pigment and a thickner. The secret is you can just DIY it if you choose- MS and MP make life easier, and they can split down bulk purchases of raw ingredients allowing you to buy 10L of a given colour.
The pigment is usually a powder paint (Tempura paint or children's poster paint)- non toxic and intended to be washable. The thickner is either a food additive like Xanthan gum or Guar gum, or a non-toxic absorbent compound like methycellouse or bentonite clay.
The food additives you can buy online, and the paint from any art store or major supermarket. You can use wet ready mixed paint for colouring too, since you're making gunge to go rather than shipping dry powders out to customers. (Do NOT use household paint- much more likely to stain or contain toxic chemicals).
Bentonite clay: artsy/pottery places might sell you some, it's also used a lot industrially since it's non-flammable non-reactive highly absorbent powder- so there may be some supplier who can sell you a few sacks.
MS also has a 'DIY' listing, which'll give you the trade names of all the raw thickners they offer. The only 'downside' might be that commercial suppliers may only want to sell a commercial amount of product, although I don't think any of us would call an excessive amount of gunge a downside
"gunge" does have a related commercial use- as special effects for cinema and TV; such as drooling monsters/blood/viscera for the horror scene, but unfortunately the SFX industry tends to have a lot more locked doors and trade secrets. If you know someone you might be able to score a supply at a good price. (Check out some SFX video tutorials too- you might find something there)

I work in tv and film and can discreetly ask a few sfx guys and girls I know (who are US based) if they are aware of anywhere if you want, I'll just spin it as work related (which does sometimes happen) or something like that!
I bought my cellulose products from chemistrystore.com for over a decade but they are currently out of stock on Hydroxyethylcellulose and haven't had methylcellulose for many years. They do seem to have Xanthan Gum in stock
I have never bought from them, but industrialcellulosics.com carries ethylcellulose and methylcellulose as well as PolyOx, which can be mixed with saturated borax solution to create REALLY thick slime. To see what can happen when you use too much borax, have a look at my vintage shoot starring Veronica Sweet
in the usa best to look at what theater and film production crews / companies use as they will have skin and allergy safe stuff give them a call / email tell them you are making a bugsy type scene and want something skin / allergy safe try film makers forums
one of the recommendations as a usa alternative while searching this question was car cleaning foam, dont use that, esp in usa, its probably got acids in it!!
also a note, xanthium gum i have used as a thickener, word of warning, spilling this dry on a smooth surface and then it getting the slightest bit damp turns it into a super slippery surface that can be hard to remove so be careful if using or mixing it in smooth surface places
also if you have pets make sure some of the dry additives are not lethal to cats and dogs etc oncase of accidental swallowing
