I'm looking for ideas or inspiration of messy themed games I can film for both UMD and for YouTube - ideally games that can be played with one or two players (but may work with one player if my friends wimp out on me.)
At my disposal I have several paddling pools, kiddy pool balls, foam letters, gunge blaster guns, paper plates for pies, various buckets, containers and tupperwares - 14kg of gunge powder and 10 colours of paint - and naturally I can always pop down to Asda for custard, beans, rice pudding or whatever. I also don't mind forking out a little on eBay to buy a prop or something I don't have.
All I ask is that the game can be filmed, can be performed fully-clothed, doesn't involve removing clothes - and will be entertaining both for the audience and the participants!
Bobbing for things can work well (potatoes, tomatoes, Ferrero rochet...) With balls I seem to have a knack of finding ones that float or if they sink they're too big for the mouth! Simple things can work well, yes/no game or a quick fire word association game (mallett's mallet blueerrgghh) We had a game at the Kent nights where a number was picked from a hat and you got the corresponding mess. Play homage to the Moomin's gunge/pie wars? How about the good lifeline quiz from the earlier series of GYOB - obvious answers beginning with a certain letter but your answers cannot start with it - good for squirms!

Great ideas! I've played bobbing games before, but not with the balls - word association and the GYOB style quiz sound cool too.
I've always liked games which involve carrying gunk in containers worn on the head - the idea being that inevitably the mess with spill over the person below. A great twist would be to actually put some small holes in to guarantee a gunging and make the game more competitive and frustrating for the contestants. Of course this does rely on having a big enough space to have to move the gunk some distance.
What about a crawling race over a sloppy surface? It needn't involve putting that much mess on the floor, just enough to make progress difficult. Perhaps the participant isn't allowed to use their hands or feet?

I do have a decent enough sized yard, so transporting gunge is possible... I have my eye on an inflatable sombrero "drinks cooler" which would be ideal for carrying gunge on one's head. Of course a tupperware with a small hole in it would work well for your other idea - and for the crawling idea, maybe cover a tarp in gunge and put a sheet or net over it and have to crawl under. I like that.
Ooh, another one I thought of - which does require more preparation - is a 'burst the balloons full of gunge with your head against the clock' type game. I'm unsure if a normal washing line strung tightly between two poles would be strong/high enough for the weight of liquid, but it would certainly have a very 90's feel to it.
Needless to say I think you'd have little difficulty getting a group of contestants together for all the suggestions above!

I was thinking of a balloon bursting type game - could also fill them with shaving foam.

Oh, I've gotten gunge on the ceiling before. I think I flipped my hair back and it ended up everywhere.

Messy Twister would be easy enough - globs of mess on each square? Would be slippery. Love the idea of a shaving foam slip and slide though, I need to buy some tarp.

Probably not, I'm not confident enough with my body - but you may be interested to know I always wear one under my clothes when filming for convenience.
I'm always a fan of anything with a spinning wheel so there's no chance of knowing what's coming. I'm an anticipation kind of guy so I like a big build up before I get messy. Probably quite easy to make too, you'd just need a couple of bits of wood, some nails and some arty crafty stuff to make it look nice/themed for your show You going head to head against another youtuber then?

It would be most likely be against one of my mates - yeah, a spinning wheel seems easy enough - giant dice would be quite simple to make too.
If you wanted to do a game with multiple different kinds of gunge, you could play a game of concentration where the pairs you try to match up are the various gunge items, and when you get a match, you get to gunge the other person with that item. All you'd need is a bunch of index cards and a flat place to lay them out.
