I have a metallic a photo shoot coming up. How much baby oil should be mixed with a bottle of the Mehron silver powder? Are other oils preferable? Thanks
It depends how much liquid you want. Don't be put off by the tiny containers - Mehron is incredibly concentrated. You'll get a couple of litres out of one. Baby oil is the one I've used (it's perfectly clear) but olive oil also works just as well. Any non-toxic oil is fine. But it must be oil.
It depends on what colour you're using as the amount per bottle differs by colour as different metals have different atomic weights.
I believe the silver is 14gm (0.5 Oz) and gold is 28gm (1oz)
I have tried one bottle of silver to 100ml of oil, it was just about enough for full body coverage for me but for a woman with long hair, I think more is needed.
I have seen others suggest a ratio of 1:3 for oil to metallic powder, so 100g of metallic powder to 300ml of oil.
I think fractionated coconut oil is the best oil in terms of safety as it's natural and odour free whereas baby oil is a petrochemical with perfume which can irritate the eyes. Olive oil also has an odour. I can't say for certain but I think baby oil might have a nicer shine, I believe it's what Jon Stevens used.
Good luck with your shoot, I'd love to see the results.
Your username reminds me of someone who used to run a website called lightspeedimages.com but I guess you're probably not the same person if you're asking about the metallic powder. I wish you was though.
