Partner and I enjoy messy play with multiple mediums, but mostly colorful frostings and puddings. I had know clue what to get him for his birthday, so I thought it would be fun to do a messy imprint of my ass. This evening I covered my ass in frosting and tested out the best way to sit to get a nice print. I'm happy with the result, and even tested pouring sprinkles on to my first test sample which worked PERFECT and I plan on including sprinkles on the final piece.
My PLAN is to clear coat the piece once done but I am still a bit concern about potential mold. Now, I'm in the USA and using the cheap canned frosting; so I feel like there are enough artificial dyes and preservatives that I don't have to worry about a mold or rot issue in my lifetime. However I could probably get the same effect with paint; but with paint I am worried it will be too much moisture for the sprinkles to make mold or sogginess.
What are your thoughts to make a fine ass into fine art?
If you want longevity - paint. A good quality water based art or student grade paint.
Years ago I got my then partner to make a boob print (blue paint) on canvas. It was made (and the process of me slapping the paint on with a big house paint brush captured) during a very messy shoot with other substances like oil, flour and eggs. I coated it with clear epoxy resin to preserve it as food based items had got all over it too. Food based items discolour very quickly (will probably go brown). The blue paint is still as bright as the day it was shot.
A clear coat sealer over it should help to resist mold or mildew. If it's on paper, you might want to consider sealing the other side of the paper as well unless you plan on mounting it on some kind of backing.
