I read that Judy Carne died this past Thursday, the 3rd, at 76 years old. For those too young to remember, she was the "Sock-it-to-me Girl" on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in" (commonly referred to as "Laugh-in"). Every week she would get doused with buckets of water after saying "Sock it to me" or some variation. (one example: She was holding a glass of sake. she said, "It may be wine to you, but it's sake to me" - which was deemed close enough to throw the water on her! Lol!)
She was cute and pretty hot on Laugh-in. I always enjoyed watching her get wet each week! :lovestruck:
When the producer, George Schlatter hired Judy for the "role", he told her something like: "We're going to do terrible things to you, but you'll be famous overnight!" And she was!
Btw, George Schlatter was married to Jolene Brand, the pie foil in one of Ernie Kovacs shows early incarnations. He borrowed heavily from Ernie's "black-outs", slapstick and other innovations when he produced Laugh-in.
I think Jolene is still married to George and I think Judy was married to Burt Reynolds
Lenny
Yes. Jolene is still married to George. When I made the original post, I wasn't sure if she was still alive or not. She's 81 now, and still a beautiful woman!
And yes, Judy was married to Burt Reynolds, but they've been divorced for many years.
It's too bad that George Schlatter figured that pies had been done enough by Kovacs (to his wife Jolene) otherwise there would have been at least one pie in the face during "Sock it to me" time. I don't think it's easily found online but there's an episode from the 1st dvd set (I forget which one) where Judy goes to an automat, opens the "Tomato Surprise" door and gets a tomato smushed in her face with a voiceover saying "Surprise!" :splat:
What a trooper. It's no surprise that she left early since she felt she wasn't getting her due otherwise and wanted to branch out. Getting hit with water from people out in public must have been quite difficult for her. I will never understand people who can't separate tv/film/performances from real life.
At the 14:00 mark Judy mentions a "Laugh-In" blooper moment when they tried to figure out the clothing she would wear while getting soaked with a bucket of water.
