I've posted before about my fondness for this old BBC show which ran from the 1960s until, I think, 1982. It was a contest between teams from different towns and villages, playing a variety of silly games, sometimes involving foam and water. I was growing up then and used to look forward to it all week. I was becoming aware of sexual attraction and realising that for me, what I later knew as wetlook was fundamental. There are much better quality pictures to see by the ton, but for me, these bring back that special feeling I got when I saw that the next round was to be a game played in the pool! I've got loads of these pictures if anyone is interested! I've checked with the moderators that it's OK to post.
Please post more! My favorite was always the end of the event, when some teams jumped in the pool together - and often some lady coaches or pesenters were mildely forced to follow.
Thanks, folks! I'm trying to be careful to exclude background crowds from pictures. Also any images of the lead host of the show, who brought great trauma into the lives of innocent victims of his abuse. It can be difficult to remember the fun of the shows, in the knowledge of the disgrace he brought, but this is about the shows, not about him. I've got a couple of dozen or so episodes on very old DVDs, but my computer struggles to play these now. Wish I'd downloaded them before!
Some of the games were mad. I've got some pics, but I'm also including one where a 'band' gets tipped into a pool, and the (fake?) piano starts to fall.
After reading your comments, I've blurred out the crowd, so thanks for the reminder.
Hi MrWetShirt - I doff my cap at the depth of your knowledge; love your comments!
I remember the international version, Jeux San Frontieres, with competitors diving off a pirate ship before starting the games, so I guess there were plenty of European versions too.
Thanks, WetPantyLover, for your reply. I haven't got much else. This show embedded itself in me, it was just so much fun. There was something about the format, the water, the games kits. Thanks for posting. Anyway, if anyone else here is interested, there is a fantastic website with a history of series by series, descriptions of games et all. In its heydey, live recordings of "Knockout" attracted crowds of up to 8,000. Like a sporting event.
I'd love to see what you have from the 60's and 70's, there seems to be so little material from that time period.
I have loads of IKO video clips not only from the UK but from other countries who had their versions (the best being the Australian IKO version in the mid 80s). If you are interested in clips from the 60's and 70's I compiled a 90 minute compilation file of the best scenes from 1967 to 1973. If interested just email me wamtec@comcast.net
kochimon (above) posted a pic of the 1981 Grand Final, when the ladies had to stay on a float while it was being pushed, pulled, and rotated by the other teams pulling on ropes! Here are a few more from that game.
