The only "wrong" way to do WAM is if it's non-consensual. You don't fill someone's clothes with custard, or throw them into a mudpit, unless they have consented in advance. Other than that, absolutely anything goes as long as all concerned are consenting and happy with it.
Citrus person doesn't do anything for me but if they are enjoying it, more power to them.
As with all forms of kink and fetish, informed consent is everything.
