I bought my wife a Psylocke costume for a conic convention we are attending in July, but we've been wondering about how it will hold up to WAM and what care we need to take to clean it afterward. We aren't wanting to go too crazy with it, just some wetlook or light WAM such as vanilla pudding or like her sitting in a banana cream pie? Would that ruin the material? I do know the tailor that did the alterations for her said that lotion or baby oil is good for conditioning the material and prevention of cracking.
When you say imitation leather, what exactly is the material? Several different things are sold as that. What does the fabric label say? Knowing the actual material will enable accurate risk assessment.

Therein lies the problem. It was custom made, but still done wrong. There are no labels, but I've seen this type of material before. From the feel of the product, it's very similar to what purses would be made from. Nice and soft, supple material. I have a swatch of it. Maybe I can test that out.

That sounds like PU, in which case it should be quite safe to WAM, and just wash clean with warm water and a little mild detergent afterwards. Or if its only a kettle messy, shower off while still wearing it.

That's what I was thinking, polyurethane or PU. I think we can safely get her messy in it. Thank you for your input.
