I think there's a lot of confusion between the popularity of slapstick and the popularity of WAM as a fetish. A lot of us developed this fetish from being exposed so much to slapstick in film and television, so it's very easy to confuse the popularity of slapstick with the underlying popularity of WAM fetish. But the reality is that A LOT of people are extremely sexually repressed, or simply don't have much of a libido and don't even think about sex as often or are as kinky about sex when they do think about it. Most people may enjoy watching slapstick but never even think about doing it themselves or consider it to be arousing in any way, shape or form.

This is most definitely a very, very, very, very small community and it is very niche and uncommon. Which for me personally actually makes it much more exciting than if it was common. The more common something is, the more boring it becomes and way less special to experience and less special to meet others like this.

I don't know, I've talked to someone here whose partner introduced her to his WAM kink. At first she didn't get the appeal, but after trying it and looking at pictures of herself afterwards, she found it arousing.

The important thing to remember when thinking about this is that it's not a binary "is / is not" a wammer. There are three main positions someone could take and various ajacent smaller ones, and a lot will depend on what someone feels matters most to them.

There are three main positions:

Actual Fetish Wammer. Someone who actively gets turned on by being, watching, or thinking about, messy situations. These are us, actual fetishists.

Happy To Get Messy. Someone who not only doesn't mind, but actually enjoys getting messy, but doesn't get anything sexual out of it. They may enjoy the tactile feelings, or the mental release of doing something "forbidden". They're completely open to getting wet and/or messy, and find the experiences pleasant, but crucially, they don't get a sexual reaction from it.

Non-Wammer. Doesn't enjoy being wet or messy, would want to get out of an accidental WAM situation and change into dry clothes as fast as possible.

Now it's possible that a "Happy To Get Messy" person could come to enjoy it sexually if their partner, they're already cool with being messed up, knowing that it gives their lover(s) pleasure might switch them on to the sexual nature of it. But on the other hand they could equally well have successful ralationships with wammers without being into it themselves other than as general fun.

It's also possible that a non-wammer might agree to provide "wamexual services" to a wammer partner for the right deal. It's not that uncommon for people negotiating a serious relationship to agree to a deal where someone not into something will provide it to the other person in exchange for stuff they want - the classic situation being sexual kinks in exchange for marriage, wealth, and security. The important thing is that the parties go into it with eyes open and a full understanding of what's expected.

In answer to the original question, I suspect the number of actual wammers in the population is tiny. I believe there are stats that 3% of any population is gay and 1% are asexual, I suspect specific fetishes come way below those, we're probably talking about 0.1%. Which doesn't sound like many but 0.1% of eight billion is eight million people. But there will be far more "don't mind getting messy" types, think of all the outdoorsey types, people who do Tough Mudder and similar events, people who do pie booths or dunk tanks, people who take part in waterborne events where getting soaked is sometimes part of the fun, etc.

I completely agree with you that I LOVE how uncommon this kink is. It makes it easier to "get away with" compared to more visible kinks, despite WAM being visually outrageous. I think the puzzling thing for WAMmers like ourselves is, if it's not a widespread thing, why is there so much of it about? And I don't mean the sort of content we see here, but its mainstream popularity in things like wet tee shirt competitions, slime forfeits on gameshows, mud runs, internet challenges etc etc. Either the population at large happens to get something enjoyable from the very thing that we find arousing, but which is not actually arousal at all, or else it's really quite common to find WAM scenarios at least a little bit exciting, it's just the most people (probably) don't act on it.

To be honest, #12 and I had an amazing (the best ever actually) physical relationship but she was just a terrible person. Negative, belittling, emotionally manipulative and kinda a thief. I don't regret it at all, but also it's not hard to wonder "why didn't I stay with her?" and get the answer after about 3 seconds of thought.

I think it's because the concept of getting messy is innately rebellious and visually outrageous, so it has a sort of appeal (in acting it out or seeing others do it) that never crosses into being sexual for so many people. It's just that a small part of us had sexual awakenings watching/experiencing things like this and started digging deeper.

#10 was nice enough, a bit unstable and ultimately trying to use me (or any of the guys she was dating) to try to get out of her really bad housing situation. Once her intentions were clear that she wanted to move in ASAP, it became pretty awkward.
