The lack of response from most Democrats about this stuff is very telling. The way that he did it with very few employees pushing back because they are afraid of retribution is sickening.
The things that scare me more than that are that Trump is talking about shipping our criminals who are U.S. citizens to other countries to serve out their sentences and basically deporting them. He also is using Gitmo as a camp for immigrants. There are reports of Native Americans being caught up in his ICE raids. This is a fucking mess.

Using Guantanamo Bay and deporting citizens is a horrific abuse of power, and those here that support it just show me how bigoted and cruel they are.
Trump and Musk timed all this for when the House was adjourned, they are back now, so I am hoping we get some pushback on this insanity.

This is in fact very scary. I hate to be a slippery slope type but if this move works without too much friction, how long do we have before it's not just "illegal immigrants and criminals" and moves on to political opponents or dissidents. So many of the plays from project 2025 are already being laid out despite being disavowed over and over, I wonder if and when we'll see the shipping of pornographers off to detention camps.
It's a disaster. I feel a lot of the far-right representatives are feeling a little too confident too. Take the new annoying one, Nancy Mace of South Carolina. Her claim to fame is saying slurs. How can you just do that? If I said a slur at my job, I'd be fired.
I always think about what if the democrats did anything the right does? There would be riots in the streets, they would all be arrested immediately.
The fact people believe the democrats control some sort of "deep state" is a joke. First off, if there was one, you'd assume they'd stop Elon from couping USAID; secondly, how would trump even have been elected if there is an all powerful shadow government? I couldn't imagine the democrats controlling a deep state, they can't even get the country to believe in fundamental human decency. Also, it's shocking that being respectful of others is a political argument.
We all know the culture war is a distraction. They created a bunch of non-issues and are making a big fuss about it. Take the trans athletes argument, that was a complete non issue. They just latched on to it as a way to pretend they care about women and to distract their base from how trump and his cronies are funneling money into their coffers. It's unfortunate it's somewhat effective, however I don't think the majority of people, especially women, are falling for it. They just need the female support, then once all the governmental positions are conservative, they'll start taking our right away (again). Start with an easy target, lie about caring, trick people, get votes. It's an easy process.
That impact would be on the US consumers. There are a lot of things that Canada provides to the US that we cannot get here. So there are no other options in that case.
There are almost always alternative products, but even in a scenario where only Canada produces a product and Americans can't get it from anywhere else, there would be some consumer cut back if the price rose to allow for a 25% tariff.
At the other end of the scale from that scenario, a cost increase of 25% could see a Canadian export completely wiped out and Canadian job losses as a result.
Whether little impact or big impact, it all adds up, affecting the Canadian economy negatively, and so affecting Canadians. If it only affected US consumers, tariffs wouldn't be much of a threat to make.
I'm not normally a gloomster, but seeing exactly how the military, legal and intelligence staff have been replaced by unqualified Trump lackeys in recent days and licking Putin's asshole just when Russia is starting to get seriously weak, I do think the USA has actually tipped into something terrible now. He's building a gangster state just like Putin's in front of our eyes, and people still think it's going to be ok.
I just heard the radio interview clip when Trump was questioned about what he thought about the state-organised abduction of 20,000 Ukrainian children from the occupied territories and he casually said he'd only heard about this the day before and that he would have a word about it.
I can't find a banging-a-head-into-a-brick-wall emoji.
For UK perspective, I have found it interesting how the likes of Boris Johnson, Piers Morgan and Nigel Farage have been contorting themselves (and the general concept of logic) in an effort to 'square the circle' of supporting Ukraine at the same time as licking orange ass. 'Farkinell!' as they say hereabouts.
Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are pieces of shit for the way they treated Zelenskyy. This was all a facade, they had no interest in trying to broker peace. This was all just so they could harp on Zelenskyy.
VegasWam said: So...one hell of a week, huh? To my fellow Americans, what are your opinions on the slew of executive orders coming out? What about ol' Musky and his nazi salute?
How's everyone feeling so far?
Well, as someone living a lot closer to russia than most of people on here, does not feel too good to have russian assets running the show. As for the Dow going south, tariffs, a potential global recession? This will impact all of us, our jobs, our incomes our retirement savings, no matter how we feel about it.
As for anything that concerns US internals, like laying off most of public employees, shutting down whole departments, like the department of education, giving Elon access to everything, probably privatizing social security, ICE raids, making car-commercials from the Whitehouse grounds, making a president factually a king ... we will all see the result of it. Just one thing: the current administration, fox news and all the right wing bloggers and pundits should grow a spine and stop blaming Biden for any of their own shots in the knee. That's getting old. Own up to it. Stop bullshitting. I thought they were all alphas and not whining kids (sorry for being disrespectful to kids).
