Soooo more than a decade ago, back when WAM clips on YouTube actually got shown to people besides, um, people looking for WAM clips.... I got a strange email from someone who worked for "WhackedOutTV." They were starting a new series and needed goofy, funny, and "bizarre" content to fill it out. And they'd seen my stuff on YouTube and wanted to know if they could license it.
I REALLY thought this was a scam. (I even spoke about it with PieFightGirls Neil! He thought it was a scam.) And yet, after some back-and-forths.... Turned out it was NOT a scam. They only wanted to license a handful of clips, for one-time-use, and in return they'd pay me $300. Back then, $300 was good money! It covered most of my rent that month!
So I wound up sending them the Marisa clips from SS50 & SS51. They cut me a nice check. And.... I never saw the footage. Until now. When a new channel started uploading vintage WhackedOutTV clips.
They... basically just kept the spirit of the original skit? Right down to Marisa being a supermodel? But with a ton more voiceover? (And also, they used a cartoon pie when the real one was RIGHT THERE?) It's a neat little time capsule, anyway. Sadly they never asked for more footage. Guess once was enough!
This is so very Tosh.0/The Soup/Best Week Ever, but with more of a "90s Spike TV" vibe.
I am utterly fascinated.
But I am glad it got you paid and spread some wonderful WAM to the masses. (I do love the constant creamy slimings, they look great in this clip/how they're used.)
Also, how many other producers lisenced their videos for mainstream productions? I know a Piefightgirls video was featured on Jimmy Kimmel in 2003 and Messygirl.com got featured on a reality TV show back in the 2000s.
