The Shelly "workout" video didn't sell that well at all, though... Although it was a custom so I didn't care. But yeah, I didn't know if that was "ponytail turnoff" or just "Shelly fatigue."
I'm putting up Nichole's final scene with pics in a new thread, for those who care. And yes, this is a REAL HAIR scene. We'll see if it makes any difference.
Anyway, this thread has been fun. And illuminating. And has the worst ratio of views-to-sales of ANYTHING I've ever posted. (I think one person purchased a one-angle DL in the 4 days this has been up.) Let's never break that record, shall we?...
I think your approach to dealing with this situation in general, and this model in particular, were spot on. Your ethics are beyond reproach, and I think that's far more important than making a shoot happen. im sorry this one didn't work out well...I'm assuming you have received a lot of negative feedback over the wig that we aren't privy to. There was just no way to predict that.
Speaking only for myself, here's my deal with the wig (and plase share this with Elle). For me, when I see an obvious wig, it makes EVERYTHING seem fake about the shoot. It removes me from the fantasy of "here's a good looking girl who knows she's about to get messy, and she doesn't mind at all".
From what I understand, the vast majority of your models have a good time with it. They are free spirited enough, and secure enough with their appearance e and self that they are willing to be on the receiving end of a very messy slapstick gag.
So, when a model wears a wig, that tells me that she's NOT really ok with the whole thing. She's basically pretending, and it's obvious because she doesn't want to get her hair messed up. And so, it removes me from my fantasy of the girl wanting it to happen, and really only doing it begrudgingly, or because she wants to get paid. To me, it's a half-measure on the part of the model, and comes across as very fake.
Regardless, I want to emphasize again that you absolutely handled things correctly, and I respect your commitment to working with models in a cooperative fashion. I imagine that's why you get plenty who are willing to return, and lots that still talk with you.
All of this. Well said. I am also a person to which the hair being messy is a huge part of a scene. I am also a past and future satisfied customer. I feel you always have extremely hot models and I love to see them get messed up. I am glad to see you are taking the feedback constructively.
Also, I was curious, do you send models a clip or scene of your work to know what they are getting into by doing a shoot with you?
Thank you for your hard work over the years and I look forward to buying more scenes!

I do, but I STILL get models (I think Nichole might've been one) who don't bother to watch it and suddenly act surprised at the amount of pies!!
I actually put together a new "recruitment" video that features excerpts from SAW, the America's Got Talent clip, the double Shellys, Star Wars, and some other excerpts cut together pretty well.... Along with vintage bits from the 3 Stooges and YCDTOTV to put everything in context. One model (coming soon!) actually told me she sought out MORE silent movie clips after watching it and found them "hilarious."
She is also one of the only models I've worked with who asked to watch her own footage afterwards... And then laughed HYSTERICALLY whenever she saw "herself" get nailed with a pie! That's a good trait to have.
