Not a bad idea but I think you would probably still be with the big players as a content creator/seller. Lots of smaller content creators have had WOTD obviously the larger producers do win it more often though.
Amateur and professional would be interesting though and might encourage people not selling to share their experiences.
We've been here before many times over the years. Most recently in relation to persistent/recurring winners (day after day) when an individual or producer experiences a run of popularity. It seems a little unfair to some at the time. A kind of "frequency bias". But none of these runs goes on forever.
I don't think it's possible to make a popularity contest 'fair' without it ceasing to be a prestigious award.
Now what I would like to know is how Picture of the Day works. I and my models (mainly my models ) have been WOTD quite a few times in the past but never once POTD. This does feature a lot of prolific and hard working UMD members who don't usually get too much exposure and yet, some commercial contributors seem to have very regular exposure this way, too (?). I don't want POTD, BTW, I'm just curious how it's awarded.
I wanna be careful with this but this has been one of my pet peeves for a long time...I've gotten WOTD in the past when i used to have a lot girl pictures up here. I took them down because i admit they were not mine but what i found on web and i just wanted to share with others. Out of a very deep respect for MessMaster and the site in general i took them down as to not to cause him any trouble. I have been posting my own pictures and videos for over a year and have not been WOTD since. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate the "loves" I do get on my pictures and all the comments on other content. It seems like the same people and producers receive that. I know my content is limited because I do work full time and the dynamics at my house do not let me warrant greater material, and the other issue is, it's just me doing me the scene, the recording, the editing and the posting.
I am in no way diminishing anyone else's content, just sharing some of the thoughts i have on this. I don't know if there is a glitch in the metrics used to determine WOTD or what but there were times when i have had hundreds of "loves" and never even got a runner up position. I would really like to know how WOTD is determined. I know people are click the little heart on what they like and skip over content they don't like or doesn't appeal to them. Not everything appeals to me and I do the very same thing. I guess i would like a little more recognition for my posts...i'm sorry if that seems selfish.
I recall feeling the same as you Trixxi when we started our store. We were in the same position and we just couldn't keep up with some other producers. I can give you some pointers that I found while we were actively producing content. We needed to align the timing on a couple of factors.
Timing of scene releases. Friday and Saturday are the most popular days for new video releases. You can see this in the scheduling calendar. If you release a scene on those days, you are competing with all the other producers who released scenes that day for customers attention. Sometimes it is better to pick a less popular day and more people checking their feed on that day would notice you and start elevating your presence. Then you can push more releases on Friday and Saturday after you have a larger pool of customers who follow you.
Promote the scene in the Forums the same day it is released (or the following day). After it is promoted, be sure to respond to every comment made by customers in the thread, scene, and pictures. Responses don't have to be right away. Even a few days later would be even better. Because when the 1st person commented on the picture, they promoted that picture to be viewed in the Wall. Then if you bump that picture again in a few days, it gets posted again to the wall. When I used to have Facebook, I would only scroll through my feed for a short while before I move on to something else. This would leave a repeatable probability that I would miss out on that picture bump by a customer. But when you reply back to it in a few days, that may align when I am scrolling the Wall and I would see your promoted picture, like it, and then find my way to the scene.
It's certainly not a proven science but that is how I found it worked best for us. I knew we sold the most on Friday and Saturday. I also knew that another store was releasing scenes every Friday and they would typically get WOTD on Saturday because their scenes are that good. You will find a rhythm that works for you.
