When MPV first began to tinker with MPVBleck we couldn't really decide how to classify the stuff. The deep MPVBleck in particular was visually amazing and some of the ladies really liked it a lot. As a result we have some really cool WAM work over at the Quicksand Visuals side of the house -

Call me a purist but I have hated the MPV 'oobleck' from day one. Somehow it reminds me of sort of a cross between methyl cellulose and watery mud. I know, to each their own, I just get frustrated every time I see it instead of a nice clay pit update. Feel free to flame in my direction; fire at will!

I absolutely LOVE the mpvbleck!! It looks like it must be the most incredible substance to sink into! I can only imagine how grabby it feels under the surface. Watching the scenes I always feel jealous I can't experience it for myself

Well that's why they make different flavors of ice cream. We all like different stuff. Useful feedback is what we crave otherwise we'd never know what the audience prefers so thank you. We try to give everyone what they like but it's a broad fetish and that makes things kind of challenging. Even though the substance may change we try very hard to make certain the scene is delivered as technically correct as we can make it with lighting, sound, editing, real outdoor surroundings and beautiful ladies every time. That much consistency you can count on.

Bleck: the kind of wam substance only a quicksand fan could love.

That gunk has saved me a LOT of money over the years!

It is mind blowingly "grabby". The harder you pull against it the harder it hangs on. I tried it once just to see what the ladies were experiencing and it gets even more interesting beneath the surface. What appears to be the performers turning around is actually the bleck moving them. You can't tell this stuff where you are going. Summer manages to muscle her way through it better than others but it's one hell of a workout for anyone.

The shallow 'bleck can be just as unforgiving if it sets up too long. We actually had a rookie getting very upset because she couldn't pry her feet loose. That's not our style so we had to cut and let an experienced hand show her how to work with it. Very Zen kind of become one with the 'bleck thing.

This is probably the closest thing we can get to having anything resembling a tar pit without having to use actual tar, which is horribly volatile and toxic.

This stuff looks far more safe all things considered, and the results are incredible!

To be fair, I had no interest in this stuff when it was in its prototype phase, in tubs and shallow fake-looking ponds, and there was no telling what could be done with it involving a real QS submersion scene. But then I saw Ludella submerge in it, and that sold me on it completely!

I have to give a shit-ton of credit to the MPV models for what they do in this stuff! It's gotta be so hard and scary trying to submerge in such a thick substance and then re-surface without loosing their breath. And they gotta be strong as fuq to movie in that stuff in general as well!

woah, awesome. I had no idea that stuff existed. So when they go under, do they have to come up pretty quick or get stuck for real?

You have to handle it with some grace for sure. You don't do anything quick with it. Nobody has to pretend to be stuck. Funny you should ask about the bubbles because we tried to do just that. After putting air into it at 100 psi it kind of...swelled. Like some kind of alien creature it sort of grew but never displaced what you would call a bubble. We had the ability to double the pressure but it was kind of wicked looking so we left it alone. After some debriefing we think the thickness of the batch might have been a problem. Also remember that the harder anything presses on this stuff the firmer it gets. That might include air too. We may try again with a looser batch and more air. We may splatter 'bleck all over the state too.



You read it correctly. The early stuff was all an experiment but Dave finally got it together after A LOT of effort. Sarah Michelle was the first to actually submerge in the stuff but she did it without warning or plan. Scared the crap out of us and didn't do her much good either when she attempted to breathe after surfacing. Remember it coats everything and the harder you try to get it off your face and nose the more it resists. But she was the first. Star is a SCUBA diver and a more reserved personality so when she wanted to try it we did a little planning. Worked much better that time and she created the techniques that everyone now uses. Summer is the only one who can really push it around unless it's begun to firm up. There's a host of environmental and mixing variables that get different results with it so every batch has it's own personality. Little Mina was justifiably proud of herself when she finally submerged on her own initiative a few weeks ago.

Dig and line a large hole. Do an absolutely ass-busting amount of labor with three people to mix and fill said hole. Ingredients are $$$, lots of water, and lots of labor along with all the stuff to make MPVBleck. Believe me when I say it's just not for the casual wammer.

Oh, and if you jump on it you won't go anywhere. You can step but we've had Summer jump rope on it without sinking.

i love both clay and blek...the coverage and the emersion scenes are amazing with the oobleck, especially how form fitting it is.
