The buy-x-get-1-free deals, coupons or percent discounts that some producers offer on special occasions, bundles, tagged content, search, finding scenes with specific models, and so much more - all of this has lead to to buy more on umd. The social aspect of being able to love and comment on content makes it a fun experience too.
As a fledgling (and albeit amateur) content producer, I think the payout split between myself and the UMD is entirely fair and reasonable. There's tremendous costs and infrastructure put in place to make this site what it is, and the communal store has a tremendous network effect that generates sales that would otherwise never happen because folks could not otherwise find specific content.
Having been on other camming platforms, I can attest that the payout split is similar, except you don't get the social network benefits, nor the additional community features that UMD makes available for producers and community members at large.
That said the site being slow means that my engagement with the site is less than I would want because of the lag when responding to message, or even just loading pages.
The payment cut UMD takes pales in comparison to C4S which takes 40% of your earnings. I don't think any producer has an issue with what they pay UMD for hosting their content. It really is a performance based issue. If the site functioned better I would even consider hosting my videos on here but it doesn't so I don't. Despite all their faults, the reason I use C4S is at the end of the day, it just works and their traffic performance is worth it.
I've been holding off on subscribing to certain stores because of how slow this site has been. I don't want to waste my money on unplayable content. I hope this gets fixed soon. I noticed there's been no major announcement by MM so I'm not sure if progress is being made yet.
Nostalgic Erotica Prod said: There are plenty of creators, both in the industry and out who can create amazing footage, retain a lot of the quality without having to compress the ever living hell out of it. Sure. I am sure it might look great on a 4' screen to you, but a producer should not need to be put in the choice of forsaking users who use other devices to save space for someone who can't fork over the 10 bucks a month for 1tb of iCloud or Google Drive storage. Yes, create an HD and UHD version. People buy both and yes, people play them on other devices other than their phones. Just about every workstation from Premiere Pro to Davinci Resolve offer multiple export options just for this reason. Not saying Handbrake is obsolete, but it definitely isn't as relevant or as necessary as it once was nor should a producer be pressed to "throttle" their quality for a single forum when there are dozens of clip sites that don't have the same restrictions.
I disagree - for people on decent pay the extra £10 for cloud storage is nothing - I have a 2TB Google Account - but many of our customers are younger and less well off gig-economy folk for whom that tenner might be the difference between eating this week or not. Plus some people only want the content locally, not trusting cloud for privacy reasons. OK I believe the internet privacy ship sailed long ago and isn't coming back but there are people who still think it's a thing.
And on top of all that, not only does it look the same on a 5" screen, to me it also looks the same on my 32" curved 4K monitor - and that's proper 4K not the fake "not real 4K" UHD monitors that shops were trying to fob off on folk a few years back. Handbrake really is that good.
1TB cloud storage is more than feasible with the same generation who have subscriptions in lieu of actual cable. For less than a Netflix subscription, they have a TB that is readily available across all their devices as long as they have a network or cellular data. They can just as easily drop their phone into the toilet or get hit with a sizable brown out and there goes your best laid plans.
With the advent of 2 factor authentication and VPNs readily available, privacy shouldn't be a concern. We have long passed the day of wearing trench coats and sunglasses in order to walk through the black curtain in the back of your local video store. So it's silly to think privacy matters to anyone at this stage in the game. Fact is, nobody cares what you fap to.
As I said, I said Handbrake isn't as relevant (which is fact). Didn't say it was worthless. There are means to scale down your content to whatever size you need in virtually every Workstation out there. It is silly to suggest to a producer to take the extra time to interrupt their workflow by opening up an additional 3rd party program to downscale their footage for a single site when no other clipsites out there have the same constraints (even C4S, and they're probably among the most restrictive).
And we can debate about quality all the live long. You're gonna have your opinion. I have mine. I think handbrake is a bandaid for not having the proper tools (ie Proper editing software). Does it work? Sure. Does it work as well? Not always and when 8K becomes the newer standard and the demands increase over time of what people expect, it's going to be even more obvious. It's free for a reason, dude.
It is quite a concern that this has been raised by a few people yet we haven't heard anything from Messmaster acknowledging that there is an issue. We all want to see this site succeed and thrive like it has done for many years but at the moment i just feel like it is slowly dying.
It's running much faster as of like maybe the past week. Before that it was getting to the point of unusability. Definitely was sitting on a couple scenes I wanted to buy but wasn't confident I would be able to download given the speed issue, so I passed on them. But now it's running much better. Thanks MM for all your hard work!
I have got to say there has been a major improvement and i can actually view some of the trailers that are on here so thank you MM for sorting this issue
