SStuff said: Well, when your only choices are Ugly Bieber and Curly, you pick the lesser of two terrible God-forsaken evils I guess.
Also, I know WE think the guys are faceless and interchangeable, but for the majority of the CM audience (teenage girls) the opposite is true. They seemed to worship the twins (God help us all)... and the same with Motorbike, Token, D'Lucca, and even Ugly Bieber. And even CURLY has a weird little fanbase too. (I remember some girl on IG taking offense when someone begged him to have a little dignity and stop getting hit with 20 pies every show. She said... something... about how sweet and funny he was for getting pied. Next week he took 40. There ya go.)
Although I suspect if we told Karla she was sweet and funny for taking 6 pies, she wouldn't take 15 the next show. Because Karla is not a moron.
Motorbike, Ugly Bieber and Curly are the "exceptions". They're the comedic "talent". They're the "clowns". The other men are nameless and faceless. The men's team requires at least one clown. The women's team requires at least one bitch.
On IG and FB the models have friends and family chiming in on their behalf. That's the base of their "fan clubs".
I haven't had Internet for a week, but I just watched the ep. I will say it again Giovanna is awesome. She never blocks the wrap around pieings.
On a side note, did that Ruda guy get in trouble for pieing the girls too good or something? The last few weeks he seems to go out of his way to give weak pieings. Ironically, the last time I've seen him get someone good was Giovanna and that was epic.
This week's debacle aside, this show has raised the bar so high for me that I almost never buy videos anymore. What's the point? The women in them are highly unlikely to be as hot (with some honorable exceptions), and often, are not even pied as well. I noticed that my buying had fallen off a cliff semi-recently and have only just concsciously acknowledged that it's down to CM!
To me, this is all just pure gold. Unlike College Madhouse, these are super hot models who you KNOW all think they're going to make it big; start in movies, TV shows, or be a pro model.
Instead, they're on this show getting publicly pied in the face. That inherent level of humiliation really does it for me.

This kinda publicly confirms what I've always privately suspected.
The fact that my Chega Mais parody was one of the few scenes to achieve pre-2015 sales numbers kinda tipped me off.
I literally was never into pies in the slightest, always was a mud and slime guy myself. Even the first month or so of last year's CM was an "ehhh" on my radar until that infamous blue Sabrina one happened. After that, I dunno, something clicked.

Some of the women require 30 episodes before it begins to sink in that CM is not the pathway to Hollywood. A few of the women figure it out after 4 episodes.
Perhaps Nadia and Barbara have developed minor modeling careers as result of CM. Neither of them highlights clips from the show on their IG so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe CM has nothing to do with their limited success. At this point I think they've concluded that being on the program is a more of a liability for their careers than an asset.
Considering the economic meltdown in progress in Brazil I'm sure it's difficult for an unknown model with few prospects to walk away from a steady gig. Even if she hates the steady gig.
Some are probably going thru school on the side, and figure this is a decent way to make a small paycheck, whether they enjoy the pies or not.
I follow Nadia and Barb on SC and they seem fairly busy. It's weird, I have no idea what Barb is saying on SC, but just find her snaps enjoyable. Maybe it's the tone of her voice, I dunno. I really should take a basic course on Portuguese.
Also it's running according to a "variable ratio of reinforcement "(stay with me here) - so unlike videos on umd, where you know what's going to happen (i.e. girl WILL get pied) on CM there's always a large element of uncertainty and the possibility of disappointment. That keeps it exciting.
At the risk of sounding like a pseudo-intellectual, maintaining lab animals on a partial reward schedule is the most effective way of keeping them coming back for more, i.e., incentivizing the action leading to the rewarding stimulus (e.g., lever-pressing for food pellets). If they get the food on each and every press, they achieve satiety, and become blase about it, thereby pressing far less often (the "meh" response, if you will - analogous here to the buying of videos). But with CM, there's an excruiating near-miss for every jackpot (c.f. Karla last week vs. the week before). So maybe the answer, Rich, is to throw in a few videos where no-one gets pied. And if that works, cut me in on the profits, won't you?
P.S. Yes, I did just compare you all to lever-pressing rodents.

Barbara's voice sounds deep to me. And her speech pattern sounds valley girl-ish. Her voice doesn't seem to match her appearance. Maybe the fact that I don't know what she's saying distorts my hearing.
Perhaps one of our Portuguese speaking friends will chime in. Does Barbara have an accent or just a strange voice?

This is 100% true. There is no excitement from a win if there is no possibility of a loss.

CM deserves a ton of credit for staying "real".
They easily could've gone the route of professional wrestling and become a staged program.
When they did that fake blow up with Nadia running out of the studio I feared the show was headed in that direction.
Fortunately the show has remained almost entirely genuine.
I see no evidence (other than a handful of scenes out of hundreds) that the winners or losers are chosen in advance.
The host tends to side with the women in most disputes but that bias is built in, not manufactured.

Wait, are you saying you don't think it's scripted? Almost on weekly basis you can see clues. Or do you just mean there's no big drama sequences, like the other Brazilian pie shows?

If this is true, I'm amazed. I'm not surprised that Chega Mais holds a strong appeal for some, but the weird colors and texture of the "pies" are so far away from classic slapstick-style pies that I'd think they would remain a niche.

Keep in mind that half of us could care less about the slapstick side of things. We're just in it for the sadistic pleasure of watching attractive women meet their messy fate.

The primary dividing line for me is Real content vs Produced content, not pie texture.
Sure, if CM switched to small plates of shaving cream (like hundreds of YT videos) the show would be destroyed IMO.
It'd be interesting if CM did an episode or two with classic pies but I doubt their budget can afford 50 of them.
As long as the CM pies remain a decent size and relatively gooey I'm satisfied.
A gig on CM may not be as bad for a model's career as you might suppose...first: it's a high-profile (for Brazil) venue to show off one's looks, second: participating in silly games (including messy pie in the face games) shows that they are good sports and "willing to take" whatever is in the offering...modeling shoots get be brutal sometimes (long days standing in water, cold/heat, or in uncomfortable positions), and photogs and producers want to know the models can take it and still hold it together (smile, look good, etc.)...
We all acknowledge that the CM models, by and large, are hot s hell, some even stunningly beautiful...being on a nationally televised show and being able to show off one's body and face (even if it gets smeared with pie) is a once in a life time op for many of these girls.

Oh believe me... I could've EASILY doubled sales if I'd simply left the outcome of the latest scenes with Carrie & Taylor in doubt.
Unfortunately, the quickest way to piss off everyone in the WAM community is to NOT give them what they expect to get when they buy. Your principle makes more excitement when watching a possible clip, but I think the reason people buy clips is to KNOW, at least to some extent, that said hottie in said preview pics WILL get said mess.
Regis said: Well, if it's any consolation, disclosure notwithstanding, I'm DEFINITELY not buying any more until that one blonde who didn't get pied gets pied!
Yes, and judging by your sales stats, if you buy the scene where that blonde gets pied, that will bring your total to.... One.
The Regis thing is basically a running joke at this point. It nicely sums up the UMD that the guy who's commented on more of my posts than any other user has never actually bought a single scene of mine in the 12 years I've been producing.
It looks like they're trying to mix things up with new games. Viewers have probably been getting bored of the same old stuff. I just hope they don't waste too much time on them this week.
I think it's a near certainty that the pie segment will be 45 minutes or less. The hour long pie fight probably won't return soon. They apparently awoke to the danger of becoming dependent on the pie segment. They're presenting new games almost every week. I suggested throwing Curly/Screech in a tank filled with piranhas. They didn't respond.
