And we don't buy much stuff from the stores here at UMD simply because dollars are quite expensive in our economy. A new video costs to the typical north-american user exactly what it costs - if it's $5, then you pay $5. We, however, will actually spend something like R$20 (20 reais). Just imagine that you would pay 20 dollars for any new video, and you'll soon realize why we don't spend money on things that are charged in dollars.
I've bought a thing or two from your store in the past, and I would love to buy even more, but things are just too expensive. It's almost luxury to buy a video here.
Daniel Floyd:
I've asked this question before but no one has been able to offer an answer.
You're the first Brazilian to bring up the topic of money so you might have an educated guess.
How much money do you think the Chega Mais models make?
Considering that RedeTV! is an unwatched network and Chega Mais ratings are minuscule I'm thinking that the pay is very low.
The per capita income in Brazil is approximately R$ 11,000 (less than $3,000 USD).
I'd guess that they're making between R$ 10,000 - R$ 20,000.
I'd guess that they're making between R$ 10,000 - R$ 20,000.
Does this seem reasonable?
That's tough to say. But I'd rather go for the "no".
Nobody knows those girls here. They were cast probably because they are very pretty and they have friends in higher places - and not that high, because they could be on a really big TV channel, like Globo.
10K is the typical wage for a employee with at least a college degree, here in Brazil. Sure, you can get higher than that, but 20K is too much. And I don't think that those models are that smart to actually have a college degree.
Those girls cannot claim for a high paycheck because nobody knows them. RedeTV almost broke a few years ago - NOBODY watches that shit. I don't know how they are now, but if I were to guess the models paycheck, I'd put $5000, perhaps...? Not really sure. Can be even lower. Pretty girls that want to be on TV are everywhere in the whole world, not only in Brazil.
The bigger the offer, the smaller the demand. Basic economics.

R$ 5000 divided by 40 episodes (per year) equals R$ 125 per episode.
R$ 125 is roughly $31 US Dollars.
$31 US Dollars per episode!
Many of these models must come from upper middle class families based on the number of vacation, beach and party pictures they post on Instagram. Either that or their boyfriends are wealthy.
You can't pay for that lifestyle on $31 US Dollars a week.
Not even in Brazil.
Sometimes we in the U.S. live in a bubble and forget how much of the rest of the world lives.

I totally get the love for Kelly Medeiros. LOVE Carol Narizihno too. Never dodges a pie and always laughs, great sport about it, and she's taken quite a few herself.

Unfortunately, in ultra-politically-correct America, we say "This joke is illegal." Sigh.
Nah. That's not remotely true. Your jokes still aren't "illegal," but people seem to confuse "freedom of speech" with "freedom from the consequences of your speech." Two very different things.
The only thing that's changed over the last 50 years is that there are now negative consequences for some speech that, previously, had little to no consequence. And even that varies, depending on your position. To wit...
Let's say you tell a pretty homophobic Bruce Jenner joke. If you are: 1) a random nobody on Facebook, you will either get Likes, or Unfollowed, or both, depending on the makeup of your Friends. 2) the head of an LBGT organization, you will probably get fired. 3) Brian Williams, you will be placed on (involuntary) leave of absence. 4) Ricky Gervais, you will attract controversy, but probably get invited to host in the future, because controversy is the reason you get hired. 5) Donald Trump & Sarah Palin, your poll numbers will go up.
