I've been on here a long time and have some good news -- I can make a mud pit on my property now! It would be covered, inside like a big heavy duty tent for putting an RV in, and private. But I don't know what I'm doing and wondering if anyone can help? Or could anyone point me to posts that would help?
My wife (mid 30's, very fit) might just let me post pics of her in there, and if I can find like latex pants with a built-in condom for her, well, we'll have sex in there too. She's not ready to do it naked in mud, but we'll see.
I just want to do it right, and am wondering if there are tips or advice about mistakes to not make, how deep to make it, what kind of clay (I like the MPV gray clay that's sticky and thick), should I line it, what should I line it with, and just wisdom from people who have done it in the past. It can be big -- long and wide enough for 2 full grown adults to lay down and roll around. The structure isn't insulated so I'm wondering what I'd have to do to prep it for winter/get it ready for spring. And does one cover it when not in use, just in case an animal gets in there? We can easily put a solar shower/hose so cleanup should be OK, should I build some kind of little runoff trench or something?! As you can see I have lots of questions.
I also have an old bathtub that I might put in the same structure and do other stuff in there, but I don't know how I'd clean up.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Any help is gratefully received! It might take me all summer to get it done, but once it's done I hope to enjoy it for years to come. Thank you!
P.S. I thought about making the subject of this post "Making a Muderer"
Serious advice? Try a tub or something first to get the hang of it. You don't want to do this wrong and then have to fix it to suit. After that -
Dig a hole to size you like. Get some old carpet from a dumpster behind a flooring store or something similar. Line the hole w that first then put a heavy tarp on top of that . Secure it with tent stakes from the camping shelf at Wal-Mart. Mix 20kg bags of pottery clay dyed with concrete dye or gallon jugs of tempra paint. Mix it a load at a time in the biggest wheelbarrow or rented cement mixer you have. Keep doing that until you get the quantity you want in the hole. Just remember the bigger the hole the more you mix and that gets old fast.
Have fun.
Cover with tarp when done. Remove tarp and resume fun as desired. Maybe add a little bleach in the fall and spring if you see some green stuff on top. Might add more clay and water as needed due to activity. That's about it.
You may also wish to reference the thousand other times this has been discussed here, QSF, and other forums. Good luck.
Homer said: wow, thanks so much! carpet! what a good idea!
and maybe I will start with an old tub to try and get the hang of it.
thank you again. you're a legend, your content is fucking unbelievably incredible. cheers.
Even just a wash tub or something. After you've learned a bit about how you want it then you can just dump it in your hole. Not like it's going to spoil or anything. Pay attention to how much dye you mix with how much clay. Write it down and get a formula you can work with on larger amounts. Try to be consistent with what you buy. MPV's clay is roughly 18% gray in color so it photographs easily. You may not care about that.
And thank you. Keep tinkering and get your own lady in there.
thanks for the reply -- I have an old electric blanket that we don't use any more!!! Wow maybe I'll try that. I'll let you all know. This summer might be the experimental phase with the goal of getting it really ready by next year. Got quite a few years to play in the yard I think! Thank you again!!!

Rather than build something that might be wrong in some way the first time. Why not assemble a square or rectangle out of straw bales (it will be plenty deep enough) and then do the carpet thing and lining with plastic sheeting. That way you can figure out exactly what you want without great expense, change it if you want etc. If it is too small you can easily enlarge it, Too big/expensive to fill etc? make it smaller. When you get to know exactly your requirements, then you can build something more permanent.
