Hiya folks, I am hoping to get some feedback on this issue! I have a large number of scenes in the pile to edit, and some of them run to 30+ minutes of finished footage. (I have worked with some great models who make it very difficult to shout "CUT!" ) This is much longer than the typical messy clip I guess? I think there are three options
1) Keep editing it down to 15 minutes total. That would mean removing all the slow build up, lingering shots of messy details, and make them a much faster-paced scene than my typical style. I don't like leaving good shots on the cutting-room floor so I've never really edited with a target duration in mind.
2) Take the 30 minutes of good footage and cut it in half. Sell two clips, part a will probably be mostly clothed and artistic, part b will probably be mostly naked and possibly XXX Customers can then choose whether to buy part a, part b, or both. The price would also be split in half (roughly) but the downside is that for those who do want to watch the whole thing there is a break with title screen etc in the middle.
3) Sell the whole clip, clean to messy, clothed to nude (and maybe rude), without stressing about how long it is. Customers can either buy the full premium Hotwamhd experience, or not!
Let me know what you think, and here is a preview pic as a thank you for paying attention
Its probably a pain for you and takes time but why not offer all 3 options. Choice and price points for all. Personally I like to see a whole scene from clean start to messy ending.
There are actually plenty of 30 minute or longer videos out there. It's certainly a minority when considering all the WAM videos out there - but it's hardly unheard of. If the model is fun to watch then I will absolutely happily watch the entire video. The only clause I would put on selling it as a single clip is that I hate when there isn't clear time stamps for how much time is spent on chatting, getting messy and then clean-up if there is any. Selling me a 30 minute video with 15 minutes of mess can feel cheap, if it's not made clear that that's what I'm getting. That said, some of my favourite videos are more setup and less mess. It really depends on the video in question.
So yes, sell it as one clip, as long as it's made abundantly clear what the 30+ minutes features. Delighted to see Emilia back! Definitely my favourite model at the moment.
It is a dilemma, and having looked at UMT guidance for producers with regards to not releasing similar scenes, duration of content and file size, have in past years cut content to be less than 10mins and fit the rules, with just one scene which is shared as part one and part two.
Contemplating the option to add additional 'bonus content' to scenes going forward, including lengthier chat and buildup etc, then maybe more 'clean-up' focused videos. But would the effort required to produce and deliver additional content be popular with the community? Not sure.
Sorry, more questions than answers, but following to see what feedback people might wish to add. GMUK
I've bought a lot of your videos and they are top notch. I also have ADHD and dont always have the attention span to watch a 30 minute video all the way through. So I just skip around, easy easy.
Unless its something that severely breaks continuity, I would rather the content be there. If I dont feel like watching it, I will skip. Its not like its a videotape.
I have long and short vids in my collection and enjoy them both. Sometimes I just want a quick video and there are other times I'm fine with watching a 30 minute video because they're usually really well done and the model(s) is having a lot of fun. If I'm a frequent customer of a producer's work I'll buy a long form video to support their efforts and they never disappoint.
Like many have said, I'd consider offering all three options because you probably have customers for each way of doing it. It all comes down to how much time you want to spend editing. I don't think you can go wrong with any option.
Personally, if I buy a longer clip and want to jump straight to the action, I'm happy to scroll along the progress bar myself. But generally I watch the entire thing - I like my WAM to feel "authentic", and too many cuts spoils that for me. Likewise, I can never watch a clip which STARTS with someone already messy.
I like the ideas that others have already posted in here though. I don't know if he still does it, but Rich from SlapstickStuff always used to upload the raw footage as one scene, then an edited version as another one. That's a good middle ground.
Wow, loads of responses already. Thank you everyone, really helpful
Just to clear up a couple of points: I rarely include extended clean intros (maybe a minute or two of the total) or clean-up footage in my clips. The running time is pretty much all mess, I just like to use a lot of it
Also I understand people saying "do all three options", and had considered doing a shortened release alongside a directors cut for some scenes. However, I already release every scene in a choice of SD, HD and 4K resolutions, so if I also have two or three options for run time there could be 6 or 9 versions of each scene! That is just too confusing for me to keep track of, let alone casual customers.
Videos can't be too long but I think cutting them into parts or 'episodes' is a good idea.
You can stagger the releases and while the individual videos are affordable you are able to charge enough overall to have a good chance of recouping your costs.
I personally like an edited production and enjoy editing. It's sometimes necessary to edit for camera position changes, verbal directions (slanderous comments!), or unglamorous incidents - eg when a model gets a stinging eye and the action has to stop while it's dealt with etc.
I really don't think you need to offer different screen resolutions in this day and age. I think that's making work for yourself.
It really depends...if there's like 10 minutes of just sitting around clean before she gets messed up talking or answering questions or doing a gameshow thing or something, I'm not really interested in that. If there's mess and the camera breaks off from the models face every couple minutes to focus on what she's wearing or her feet or something, I'm really not interested in that either. If you've got a nice angle featuring the model, and she's getting mess poured all over her head again and again? The longer the better...
At the end of the day though, longer is generally better, you can always skip through what you don't like...Can even edit it yourself to your own liking.
Not sure why you'd want to contrain length, other than to fit within the file size limits? I know there's the "$1 per minute" standard but that doesn't mean longer scenes have to cost more, just that a producer shouldn't try and charge $10 for a two-minute clip.
Our main scenes are all $15, plus there's a buy-2-get-1-free so effectively $10 per scene. The running times of the messy sections mostly tend to be somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes, and we also bundle the wash-off as a separate file but part of the main download - so the overall length of the full scene, main clip and washoff clip, will often be over 30 minutes but we still only charge $15 for the scene. Keeps it consistent, avoids surprising people with random price hikes for longer scenes, and gives good value for money, which is what most customers want.

I'd agree with that, also is there any point releasing in 4K when most people these days will watch it on their phones, so all that's doing is chewing up their storage space for a gain that simply won't be visible on their screens?

This is true, these days the user is very much in charge of what part of a clip they chose to enjoy, and indeed they may chose to watch different sections at different times.
I stopped my membership with splosh plus for couple reasons but the main one was their scenes are so long and split in 2 scene. The first scene usually has an 15-18min build up.. to then starting the mess for 5 minutes.. and then you had to wait a couple weeks to see the next part.. making the whole scene over 40mins.. so.. dont mind the 30min scenes but if theres action all the way
My suggestion would be to offer just 2 options: First half only for the people that prefer clothed sploshing and second the full scene from start to end. Obviously doesn't have to be the exact first half, just cut the first part at a natural moment. E.g where the last pieces of clothing are removed or explicit action starts.
Saves you editing/offering loads of different options and gives the people who like to see all the possibility to enjoy it without title screen or other interruptions in the middle. People who are less interested in the "clean start" can fast forward to where ever they like to begin viewing and have full freedom at which moment in the scene that would be.
As said earlier, a scene starting with an already messy model would be a bit weird. I like the build up of mess and tension and the anticipation while viewing it from the start.
Personally, my first viewing of a scene would be from start to end, and with later viewings i often skip a first part (not always of the same length) and/or don't watch it till the end.
Duration is not really a consideration for me. I'm more concerned with whether it's something i want to see, and whether it's filmed well with good picture quality and good sound. And it has to be something I feel comfortable watching.

I say this is more of an artistic, financial and production based choice for you to make.
On one hand, while I am not sure how much effort you put into your edits, 30 minutes is a lot to edit. It can be a lengthy sitting session. Even more if you shoot with more than one camera. Cutting all that down can be time consuming BUT if you want, you could sell your own "directors cut" with all the parts included. This would be another pricing tier for those who want the whole enchilada and gives your customers a choice. I do this and I notice an even split between who buys my full features and who just wants the wrestling so it's a great tool. This probably would be my route to permit room for the folks who want to get right into the action while still holding onto my artistic license
Cutting in half and selling both independently OR whole without the break between the two parts is possible depending on what you are using to edit. Takes a few more clicks in most cases. I did this once with mixed results. Not a fan honestly especially how I produce usually requires some context of what is going on
