I remember reading in a TV Guide article way back that she was pied on the Mike Douglass show but have never seen it despite deep searches now and then.
I saw the clip on one of his highlight shows from a previous year (in early 1980). What I saw was a very quick vignette, but she definitely was pied. At some time around this time period I heard Helen Reddy make reference in an interview that she had been pied several times (I don't know where else she was pied). There were apparently a few other actresses who got pied on Mike Douglas including Deirdre Hall and I think I heard Florence Henderson (again). Some of this was also confirmed by Hurley Coward and were listed on his 'wanted' list of pie clips.
Yeah, for some reason, the Mike Douglas Show occasionally used pies-- unlike, say, the similar Merv Griffin show. I used to get Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas mixed up. In fact, second on my list of most-wanted lost pie scenes is from Mike Douglas. I have described it here before, but worth describing once more. I expect I will never see this scene again but....
(Going off memory, which may be faulty) Paul Anka was the guest. He was in a cowboy skit with Mike-- set in a saloon. Paul is the "bad" cowboy and wears a black hat. Mike is the "good" cowboy and wears a white hat. So Paul walks into the saloon and there is a confrontation. There is a sexy saloon girl behind the bar-- I remember blonde, dressed in like a corset thing. So, the saloon girl keeps on giving Mike items to clobber Paul with (I can't really remember, but stuff like an old-timey bomb, etc.) and these items keep backfiring on Mike and end up getting him clobbered instead. Finally, saloon girl hands Mike a cream pie. He looks at Paul, thinks, turns and clobbers saloon girl with the pie instead.
Oh, I too remember Hurley having a pic of Helen Reddy being pied-- but I would rather see the above scene again-- had to have taken place in the 1976-1978 range.
