Anyone know where the best place is to buy a heavy duty waterproof mattress protector? I've got the place to myself for the last 2 weeks of October so done a wet & messy bucket list (mainly wet).

I've gone through a few of these in my time, the problem is most of them are a really thin material.
My main go to is one on Amazon that's a plastic protector for bed bugs and piss if you like wet the bed. The plastic is good because no matter how thin plastic is, it's waterproof (and mess proof). Problem is though, they're thin for comfort reasons which leads to them getting ripped if you go as crazy as I do with mess in my bedroom.
I've found success with a multi layer approach. Since I like to sleep in mess and/or be spontaneous I like the mattress to always be protected just in case. So I get one of those mattress moving bags. Those are strong and don't rip. They're not comfortable to lay on though, so I get a cloth mattress pad (this will be ruined) and then my bed sheets on top. So it's soft and feels regular, but I can also dump a bucket of chocolate syrup on myself and not worry.
I find that the best option is a heavy duty plastic drop sheet from a home improvement store works the best. I cover the mattress with it and then just make the bed. It seems to be able to handle anything that you can throw at it both wet and messy.

before now, i've had success with a PVC bed sheet (a few layers of dust sheets over the base of the bed and floor to prevent damaging that too), with one ex who also used a Tom of Finland waterproof bed sheet (with inflatable sides to reduce spillage off the bed too. It's not cheap, but the expensive stuff is reuseable, and packs away.
A thing to be aware of with plastic dustsheets, they come in two varieties. The most common kind are the "high density" ones - which sould like they should be tough but in fact will tear if you so much as breathe on them. Then you get the heavier duty ones, sometimes sold as "low density", or "floor protectors". These cost more but are a much tougher type of plastic. These are the ones you want.
I think the protector sheets made for sanitary purposes are robust and feel 'regular'. They mostly appear to be only available online (though in the UK available in John Lewis stores). I'm sometimes amused when staying in holiday lets when people I'm with complain such protectors below the sheet make them too hot and sweaty. That's a plus for me!
I once tried a blow-up pool on top of the bed but it was comically unstable when getting in and out. The best was a pool on a mattress on the floor where I have spent whole nights with a mate in blissful alternating slippery action and slumber.
I like the idea of latex rubber sheets but fear that the smell and sliminess would get me in such a frenzy I would have to protect the whole room
