Wasn't the original idea behind the invites that you are supposed to invite only people that you know personally (or trust enough that you take rensposibility for their actions) so that there is kind of web of trust? I am not sure what the official policy is these day, though.
Well if I don't know about the account, then you'll never hear anything as it just gets deleted
GM is best described as a community. We'ere always happy to have new members but you will be expected to take part. If you're expecting just to look at pictures and videos of other guys, then you're not really going to be a suitable member. I totally understand that some people won't post face pictures here as it is quite public.
Unfortunately, from experience when I've let people who hadn't come recommend by an existing member, they've very often buggered off after a month or so. (I keep a record of who's recommended whom).
Not sure what people are going on about with this "invites" thing. If I haven't been told what email address you are signing up with by an existing member, your account is automatically deleted.
With respect, this thread isn't really the place for pitching why you should be allowed to join Gungemad.
Gungemad is a great site which is extremely well run. I'm fortunate to be a member and for me one of the best things about the site is that it has a small number of very genuine members and that makes me feel comfortable enough to share photos and videos on there. The community feel just "works" in my opinion. If the membership doubled overnight I for one would think twice about posting such material and I fully back MattUK's post- he certainly has my support for restricting membership to those who are genuine and who he feels will contribute to the site.
Apologies. It's been pointed out to me that it's possible for an existing user to send an invite from the Friends menu.
I wasn't aware that was possible, must have been added as a Jomsocial feature that I'd not noticed in an upgrade.
I wouldn't have been aware the invites would have even been sent, so again, if the existing user hadn't said to me that they'd invited someone, nothing would ever have happened so I can see why that could be frustrating, especially if you'd received what looked like an official invite from the site.
I've removed that option from the menu now so it can't confuse people.
