I finally got around to checking out some suspected mud locations today. Went back to the place I found in December and the abandoned boat ramp, and they're both inaccessible because the drought is over. I did a scorched-earth search for ANY possible mud, and found some really good stuff at the third location I tried. It's really far down an abandoned half-flooded road, in a bay, which means no strong current or waves, and there's a nearby stream that leads into a creek delta about half a mile up that I didn't walk down, as I was low on time.
Nice and creamy, halfway to my knees when walking, but I think I can get it up to my knees, and not visible from anywhere except for the very end of the abandoned road, where the treeline stops. Too bad I have to wait a week to go play in it.
I hope it is. I want to find some properly secluded mud at least waist deep, but finding mud around here at all is very difficult. I'll check the creek delta if I can get to it when I go back this weekend. Do you know of any good mud in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area?
UPDATE: Went back today, it was great. Also less water than last week, so it was easier to access. And more mud.
Played in two different mud spots that were next to each other. One thick, and the other more liquidy. Felt really good, as I haven't been able to get muddy since October 2023. There were a couple boats that drove by about half a mile away that were visible, so I'm going to walk up the creek when I go back in a few days to find mud farther inland from the river.
