It's coming to that time of year when content creators love to fall back on list articles so they can designate their time to what christmas is all about: drinking away their depression as AI slowly renders us obsolete. Them. I mean them. I'm fine, shut up.
So, what WAM stories have you read in the past 12 months (or 11, for now, I guess) that really hit the spot? If this thread gets enough traction I'll probably put up a blog with links to the best ones over on ZxStories.art
If it doesn't, well, hopefully you'll find at least SOME new reading material. Feel free to suggest anything other than AI generated stuff (though I doubt there's much likelihood of that being in anybody's top anything list for now) - any orientation, any subgenre, whatever you enjoyed. Let's give fiction some much-needed love!
@Zx - Your own Messy Margot tale was a highlight. And that I always look forward to Sameena's adventures despite them not being my (totally personal) preferred sort of theme/setting shows their quality.
@messydice - You're too modest. The mood music you conjure up in your stories is 1st class, and The Completely Unfair Gameshow in particular is a fine piece of work.
Staying within this site (other greats are available elsewhere), other authors I've particularly appreciated this year... @madmalc, @Daisy and @Piebrary as well as @VanillaXSlime's Muck Truck... And anything @Messy Irina has hit publish on, and probably a few other greats I'm forgetting in the moment...
A blog list sounds good if you do get enough clicks to proceed. And I'd love to hear from others about all the great stories or roleplays I've missed...
Wow, I'm flattered to be mentioned! I'm never going to be a video producer, so writing stories is not only fun for me, but also my way of contributing to our community. A community that means a great deal to me, by the way.
I know I haven't posted much of late (real life can be a pain every once in while), but I DO have a few more stories in the works which I hope will be ready before the end of the year. In the meantime, happy holidays to everyone! Thanks again.
Huuuge thanks for those who've given me a nod! I've read plenty of good stuff this year.
Count me another big fan of @monkeyandcircus, and both episodes of "The Wamworld Experience". The story would be *excellent* even if it wasn't interactive, but that element really takes it to another level. Increases the gameshow thrill, and the option to name and customise your competitors - just pure fantasy fuel. There are even Easter Eggs! It's an amazing feat. https://chyoa.com/story/The-WAMWORLD-Experience.51640 https://chyoa.com/story/Return-to-WAMWORLD.53013
Anara's First Public Gunging my @AnaraMess really knocked my socks off. A perfect example of how a simple, well-written story can be even better than a wild, fantastical gungefest. It's grounded and intimate, and the prose beautifully knits together the physical and emotional sensations of a gunging. Tiny details - the jam, the friend's reaction, the smell of "poster paint and celery". Wonderful. https://umd.net/stories/anaras-first-public-gunging-2
@Iron-K, who is the reason I started writing Wamfic, is in a rich vein of form writing more adult stories under the Splatstream banner. The Spreader Chairs is just delightfully filthy fun with messy machines. https://zoniverse.ironworks.me/sites/splatstream
Jouette's library of interactive stories was a goldmine to discover... Riddle of the Twelve Sylphgirls was my favourite, but plenty to explore! https://jouette.neocities.org/
Not much to share specifically, I can only second what others have already highlighted - Daisy D Duncan and monkeyandcircus especially.
To go specific - Jouette is amazing (as Daisy mentions), but my particular pick from them is five summer days... Which is long, has interesting character development, and every form of muck you can think of - https://jouette.neocities.org/fivedays/ - unfortunately not been much new from them in a while now.
On a more general thought, I wish UMD would push stories more. Every good story repository seems to have withered and died the last few years, which is a shame when there is so much good stuff out there that deserves to be promoted as much as video scenes etc...
I really need to finish the one story I've been vaguely tinkering with for months as well!!
