Hurley used to keep a list of these. Given the internet and DVRs and our ever-vigilant community, most of these are older clips.
His "Holy Grail" was finally found, the Virginia Slims cigarette commercial where a half dozen beautiful models got pied hard.
I have two: the Dating Game clip that appears as a "partial" on one of Hurley's tapes. A really pretty bachelorette had the bachelors pie themselves if they didn't answer a question the way she liked. At the end, one of the losing contestants came out and nailed her. This was a great clip because she was gorgeous and she really did not want to be pied. It was probably all staged, but she sold it well. The clip that survives rolled through the VCR late and catches her already pied. Would dearly love to see the clean shots of this girl and the actual hit.
The other one was a skit from the short-lived "Wacky World of Jonathan Winters" TV show. The premise was "bitchy" people got rewarded with a pie in the face. Two I remember were a gorgeous blonde who said "I never kiss after the first date" and an equally gorgeous waitress who said something about bad service. This show appeared briefly in the late 60s.
anyway...just put this out there in case anyone has other "lost" hits they remember...
Good post Fredsout. I saw that Jonathan Winters scene as a 9-11 year old kid. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Lots of people, as you say, attractive women getting pied. I'd love to see it again.
I think Hurley tried to contact Winters to see if he had a copy of that show. Hurley also contacted Steve Allen about a pie scene in the early to mid '60s in B & W involving Playboy Bunnies. Allen actually replied to Hurley, but unfortunately didn't have many tapes from shows from that era.
This is indeed always an interesting topic, though I can't say that I have a favorite "lost" mainstream pie scene--since I haven't seen it yet!
However, a select few that went from "lost" to "found" are among my favorite clips now (thanks largely to Hurley Coward, but also to youtube). The "Love and the Baker's Dozen" pie fight finale, where Susan Howard and Laraine Stephens (though, alas, not Susan Oliver) get pied VERY nicely, comes immediately to mind. The Judy Landers pieing on "Madame's Place" is another one--it's short, but very sweet. "The Captain & Tennille" clip was another long-lost one that was fantastic to finally see. I liked the long-lost Virginia Slims ad as well, but was ever so slightly disappointed when I finally saw it--perhaps due to unreasonable expectations?
Perhaps my favorite of these, though, is the amazing "Ring Around The Collar" pie in the face blackout sketch on The Johnny Carson Show, which is really hard to beat for the quality of the pie, the "comeuppance" element, and the PERFECT way that this completely unknown bit actress plays up the humiliation of getting completely plastered with a cream pie at a formal dress soiree by standing stock-still while the pie crust oozes deliciously off of her face and the party goes on around her.
Based on stills that I've seen (but not in a very long time--does anyone have these?) , one that I'd most like to find is the Charo "Shakespeare" skit pie in the face from "Sonny and Cher"---something about the Elizabethan-era dress and what appears to be the VERY solid pieing that Charo takes has kept this up around the top of my own list for many years.
Both the Steve Allen Playboy Bunnies pie fight and "The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters" pieings definitely sound intriguing. I hold out little hope that the Steve Allen clip will ever be found, but there seems more of a likelyhood that the Jonathan Winters one may eventually turn up. For the record, at least 8 of the 26 episodes of this series (which ran from 1972 through 1974, and seems to have been cancelled early in the second season) do exist on some of the "grey market" DVD sites out there--has anyone here ever checked these out?
Again, always a great topic--I'd love to hear about more "long lost" clips from others!
I think of lots of lost WAM...One example was a run of early 70s TV adds for incense sticks. They would approach people (Women half the time) with a burning incense and ask What flavor of **** ** brand incense is this? They would have some wrong answer like 'Lavender'? and the reply from off camera would be "No...It's chocolate." Then the interviewee would get hit with a well thrown chocolate cream pie.
The only two spots I remember specifically were women. One was a very confident girl who proclaimed "You can't fool me. It's lemon!" No...it's banana.
And the other was a woman inside a Hot box, which is a personal sauna people used to sit inside with only their head sticking out of the top while the rest of their body sweated on the inside. That pie hit was seared into my 4 year old brain. She had a towel on her head. There was no way to block or wipe with her hands being stuck in that stupid machine. She got OWNED and said nothing as the pie oozed down her face.
Another lost gem was an add for a summer show running against Tails of the gold monkey. Just Man/Woman in the street interviews. Would you like to watch re-runs of Gold monkey,..or get a pie in the face? "The pie." was everybody's answer.
In the early 80s when cable TV channels had to fill up time, the "Making of The Toy" feature was played several times. The pie fight scenes on it are much better than what ended up in the movie, plus there is a interview with the bodacious Teresa Ganzel covered in pie afterwards. I didn't have a VCR then. Earlier versions of the DVD of "The Toy" (Jackie Gleason/Richard Pryor) had no special features. I see a version now has "Bonus Trailers," so maybe I'll invest the $7.
I remember that Charo once pied herself on the Captain and Tennille show, during their reccurring MasterJoke Theater sketch. It was always a male guest who pied themselves at the end of the bit. Charo (bless her heart), was the first and only woman to ever pie herself. I wouldn't mind seeing that scene again.
I remember that too, the lead up that week on ABC had Annette pieing herself and when it aired that Monday night it was David Soul from Starksky and Hutch doing it for the second time. What a disappointment!!!
maxoverdrive said: Both times Philippa Forrester got pied. The footage actually does exist, so it's not technically "lost", but neither are in circulation.
I haven't seen either of those! What TV show were they on? Were they any good?

It's so long ago I can't be sure. Once was in a lead-in to either Children in Need or Comic Relief, she was being taught to duck by clowns and got 'distracted'. Wamtec definitely has this; hopefully it'll turn up on Wamgold eventually.
The other time, which I don't remember but have been told abuot, was in Edd the Duck's Silent Movie. Rare movie buffs definitely have this as part of home recordings of the whole of the BBC's Lime Grove Day.
But, like a decent version of her on GYOB, neither are floating around on Youtube or anything.
I recently got a couple of lost Hee Haw clips with Cathy Baker. The RFD channel has been airing reruns. One was from the Johnny Cash episode from Hurley's list and the other was from a bumper before a commercial.

I always thought Kathy Baker was really cute! And she looked fantastic in her bib overalls! I just vaguely remember her getting pied. I'd love to see these, if there is any way!
I love posts like this. The "Holy Grail" hunt appeals to both my love of pies AND hard-to-find vinyl.
Mine would be the Sesame Street "Surprise!" clip... I'm sure the hits wouldn't hold up now (and Maria is the only female getting hit), but still, it was an amazing thing to see as a kid. Basically the educational TV "Bohemian Rhapsody" of pie comedy. If anything, I'd love even the audio... I vaguely ripped it off for the SS100 clip with Toshia, but I could really do it right if I had the original song....
I remember that Jackie Gleason clip. Apparently there was a B&W version, then a later color one. It did get pulled off YT a while back. It also opens both times with Jackie "demonstrating" different pie hits on some poor guy who gets covered... Male pies aren't my thing, but I'd like to see the whole thing just to steal some ideas!
I stopped trusting Hurley's memory after WAMTEC Mark confirmed that the Suzanne Somers special with Marie Osmond as guest did NOT feature Somers getting well pied, OR Marie getting thrown face first into a giant pie. :-S
hawkster2020 said: There was a great clip from the Jackie Gleason show that I can no longer seem to find. He demonstrates the various ways to pie someone in a slapstick sketch and at the end he takes about 15 pies from the dancers on his show and a huge pie from an older lady. It was actually quite a funny bit.
Would love to see the Charo clips too.
There was another one with a pie throwing skit, it's on one of MK or Hurley's clip tapes I think. Only one woman but she's gorgeous, in victorian-style dress and gets plastered real nice
The Captain and Tennille Show was put on DVD a few years ago. I remember there was a segment where they swim in a river with their clothes on. Not pies, but anyone remember Almost Anything Goes, from the 70's? Each episode had 1, or 2, events where the participants got wet. There was also some WAM, as well. I'd love that on DVD!
Does anyone remember that show from the 90's called "Life Goes On". It had that kid Corky who had downs syndrome or something. I was tuning in the TV one night and the show had just ended and there was a still from what had just aired (which I'd missed) and the family was at the dinner table and there must have been a food fight, the hot older sister was pied or something. I never saw what happened, though.
