I'm just wondering if anyone has ever been caught trying to enter a quarry to get to the mud there and what happened afterwards. So far, the only story I've seen was from MuddyBob who said he was simply asked to leave when he got caught once. I'd really love to try quarry mudding, but I'll admit that I'm deathly afraid of being caught. Last Friday, I tried to go scout a quarry that I found on Google Earth but chickened out when I saw the signs at the entrance that said "No through traffic."
I would be more concerned about your safety, alone in a muddy quarry, you could always make up an excuse, 'I'm lost... I dropped my wedding ring in the mud... I was attacked by an invisible super villain, we wrestled in the mud, then they disappeared back to their home planet..'
I think most people will ignore you, unless they are the owners. I was genuinely birding in a local nature reserve, and I heard groaning coming from a stand of trees, being partially sighted, i went to find the person in distress, to see if I could help, But had to get rather closer to see than I would have liked, before I worked out that if he wanted help doing what he was doing, It wouldn't be from me
I've never been caught, but I've definitely chickened out entering quarries too. That is until a few weeks ago when I finally worked up the courage to explore one. Once I got in there it wasn't as scary as I expected, but the idea of getting caught was absolutely terrifying.
Do you have a camera drone? I'm thinking of buying one myself to scout locations from a distance. If anyone catches me, I'll just say my drone ran out of battery
I was once ruining a rather expensive skirt suit when a family member came around. I ignored her at first but she started banging on the back door louder and louder as she knew I was in.
In the end I had to climb out of the bath, shuffle to the bathroom window and tell her I was indisposed and would give her a call when I was done.
It really did kill the mood. Just glad the back door was locked!
Brownie, I think I might just invest in a camera drone now, although I'm also concerned about where I could park my wheels without arousing suspicion. One thing I had in mind to try was to disguise it as a broken down vehicle i.e. leave a plastic bag or a piece of cloth stuck in the driver's side window.
And jo_yo, that wasn't really what I had in mind. If I could do this in the privacy of my own home I would. My family doesn't show up unannounced.
Likewise, I'm a bit wary of checking out quarries. If I was ever to be seen by somebody in the tidal mud places I go to, it's most likely to be a walker or birdwatcher, and I feel like the level of response would be quite different from quarry security guys who actually have the job of keeping people out of the space.
Ive been caught playing in tidal mud a few times. One lady laughed at me, and the others just had a confused look on their face as they walked away. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.

That's the best thing about drones; you don't even need to leave your car to scout locations.
Once i was almost caught when i was seriously stuck in really thick clay and i couldn't move.... After i could "escape" from the muck, i started having fun with that... and fortunately i finished before a hiking couple came, and i could sneak into the lake...
For the first time it was in a big quarry. I was there alone few times and that was ok, first time with gf was also ok, but second time with her we were caught. Because there were some workers at a site, but they worked far away from mud pit, so we decided, that its safe to go in mud. But when we take of our clothes, suddenly behind us across sand pile came excavator operator. We were scared, because he drove to us, but when he was 5 meters from us then he only looked to us, like we are fools, and drove away. Then we were little scared, so we left site. And when we came to our car and tried to ride away, there was unfortunatelly security guard, whos smoking out of gatehouse. He stopped us and asks us, why i was parking there and whether i know, that this is private area so i cant park here. And why we were here on private property, I said that we want to take some pictures of my gf in the fields with quarry on her back, and we were so sorry, that we interrupt private area and then we drove away quickly.
Second time it was small quarry near highway to our capital city. We found it through google maps, so we decided to pay a visit to this place. It was nice and lonely quarry with small mud pit and water near from it. It was ideal location, but when we were in the middle of exploring this site, suddenly came big truck full of mud. He only drive around us, looking at us and without any words, he uload mud into the pit and leave us be. We were again scared so we decided to go away.
