Who has a dunk tank set up at their house? I would love to know the expense and the maintenance cost along with how you get people to come to that tank for a dunking.
Dunk tank themselves are about $3-$4k to buy new. Used prices can vary greatly in my experience. Places that do party rentals like bouncy houses sometimes have dunk tank set ups to rent. Whether rented or bought, you will need something with a 2 inch hitch ball to tow it. And this gets to what I consider to be a gray area. According to the rental company that I bought my dunk tank from, the trailer the dunk tank is mounted on is so small that you do not need to have a tag or lights on it. They said the entire time they had rented it, it was never tagged and they never had an issue. The whole small trailer thing may be true, but the dunk tank that is mounted on it is huge!! It is so big that you can not see the brake lights on my truck, which seems illegal to me...
Once you have the dunk tank at home, you need to fill it. The Easy Dunker model I have holds about 500 gallons of water ( https://twisterdisplay.com/easy-dunker/ ). If you are on a municipal water supply, that is no big deal (other than maybe cost). If you are on well water like us, it gets a bit trickier. You can try filling with the well, but you have to worry about running it dry or burning up the pump. Another option is seeing if a swimming pool company or local volunteer fire department does pool filling. The solution that worked for us was getting a 275 gallon water tote and 12 volt water pump, and transporting water from a local stream. Note that hauling water has its own set of problems (load capacity of your truck, sloshing while driving, legality of the water source, etc.).
We fill our tank and use it for a day or 2, then empty it. If you are planning on keeping it full, you would have to treat the water like you would a hot tube/pool (and add a pump to circulate that water). You would also probably need some sort of cover to keep debris out. Another thing to consider is the safety risk/liability of having it full (much like owning a swimming pool).
The easiest part of the equation is probably your last question, getting people to come. Dunk tanks are a blast! Most people have fun with them. Throw a dunk tank party! Have a session with your significant other! Have a meet up with someone from here... There are many options.
