Much like how I believe slime should be green and that's it, pie should be, well, pie colored. It should be the color it normally is: white for the whipped cream, or yellow for the pudding, or if there's some other fruit filling, great! But I've never understood the point of dying frosting (or worse, shaving cream *shudders*) different colors.
I prefer whipped cream on real pie-fillings (like blueberry, cherry, sometimes even Pumpkin works). I'm not a fan of the trend of putting food coloring in to make them all different pastels with the same texture throughout.
I'm probably influenced by classic pieings like the Mandrell sisters (white with yellow banana filling) and the Three Stooges (B&W footage but the pies often had pumpkin filling for color).... So I like my pies to be a mix of white cream and "natural" colors, like banana or butterscotch pudding. And chocolate filled pies are great if you want some variation in color.
That said, I also loved Neil's original Amateur Pies videos, which had a LOT of excellent pie hits in pastel (dyed) colors, like pink, yellow, pale green, and so on. And the early years of SlapstickStuff had their share of pastel pies (mostly pink or yellow), especially when I was throwing a lot of pies in a row and needed a variation from plain white to make each hit distinct.
But these days, as customers have grown more particular, I stick to natural colors (and pies). Once in a blue moon (pink moon?!?) I might do a pastel pie for effect. I've never heard complaints.
Just for the record, each time I've used more "extreme" colors (orange and green pies for a Halloween skit, green "Kryptonite" pies for a Supergirl scene), customers have stayed away in droves. Lesson learned!
I think it just comes down to what each person likes...personally I'm a fan of the pastels and whites and not a chocolate fan, but that's just me, too each their own and everyone is different. Even though I don't like chocolate I've used it for my followers bc that's their thing. I tend to start with a solid white then move on to colors bc I like the aesthic of the layer of colors. And I'm with slapstick stuff, some of my favorite pies to use are banana or vanilla pudding with white whipped cream...but it's more bc they taste better haha! Just do what u wanna do and ride with it and try out things that are outside ur box and see the reaction from everyone

Sometimes it can be fun to see colors explode with gunge or pies
For me, I like mostly white. A little color is okay. I hate all chocolate pies (like the ones Rich referred to above. Sorry Rich!). I do have a fondness for the old pastel style pies like in Neil's old videos, because they remind me of my younger days.
The color doesn't matter so much to me, I think colorful pies are nice for diversify. I'm more used to the pies from brazilian gameshows, they were white at the base and another color on top(green, pink, blue and yellow for exemple). I really like the colored pies from Mostwam, Pievids/PFG, Walk The Plank, Passa ou Repassa, Interligado Games, Chega Mais. The only color i never liked was black whipped cream(image below), the result was not good for me, looks like grease.
I voted "doesn't matter." I prefer white or light colors probly because I grew up watching B&W slapstick films on B&W TVs. Then I saw the Great Race and learned bright colors are fun too. More important to me tho is contrast with the target (woman) being hit: Lighter colors for darker skin and bright colors for pale women.
I think this poll ties in with the "real pies" vs "fake pies" debate. I feel like while Colorful pies give a lot of diversity in the mess real pies don't look like that. Now I don't mind some decoration on top of the pie but having all the cream turned into a specific color (and lets not forget that most of those kinds of pies do not have filling) , they might as well be shaving cream.
I'm starting to think what is really going on here is that there are two pie groups, one group that enjoys the situation vs those who like the mess. Obviously both sides can enjoy aspects of the other but the primary goal of each is very different. I dunno just some thoughts based on these past few polls.
love , love colored pies but there is also something esthetically pleasing about a brightly colored outfit splattered with white pies as well. Also a big fan of white topped pies that hide a color underneath. Put a little bit of colored cake batter or frosting in a pie tin then cover with white cool whip.
I don't mind the colors, it's the contrast that makes all the difference! The skin tone of the recipient, the background color and the pie/slime color all make or break the effect to me. When the pie is close to the skin tone it sort of loses the effect. Busy backgrounds don't help either. Good lighting or outdoors always makes it better.

I agree with the comment that contrast colours are good.
Personally I am a fan of a variety of colours, each layer making the woman more and more messy.
I think the colour of the pie should be linked to what the model is wearing. The pie needs to contrast with the colour of the outfit. Other than that; bring it on - the more the merrier!
To me the pies they have to be white and sticky[ shaving cream are perfect ] then gunge substances don't matters. Still prefer they natural color [ white marshmallow fluff, brown chocolate spread, Peanut butter, etc etc.
