As a teenager I was on a family vacation to Disney World and we did a day at MGM Studios. Some of you may remember there was an attraction called "Superstar TV" where people were picked from the audience to be in old TV shows where they were green screened in with the original actors. They did the candy conveyor belt scene from "I Love Lucy" where an audience member played Ethel, a "Golden Girls" bit, stuff like that.
But one of my all-time great memories was that there was a "Three Stooges" bit where a younger guy was picked to play the butler in a pie fight scene. He entered, said his line, and was promptly hit in the face with a pie. It was the first time I'd ever seen a live pieing and it's always been a great memory. I used to imagine going back and standing in line until I got picked for that bit, but alas they shut down the exhibit years ago.
I happened to discover that there's a video of one random performance - they did them every hour, every day, but this is the only one I've ever found online. The Three Stooges bit begins at 16:04:
This guy only gets one pie, but I remember that the performance I saw a guy who worked on that attraction was moving over to another one, so as a "last performance" tribute he did the bit and was hit by a ton of pies from his co-workers who clearly relished the chance and really got him. I hated that vacation (I was a cranky teen) but that one bit totally made it worthwhile.
Nice! I bet the guy really got covered. I've seen a few videos on Youtube where this happens in a restaurant on someone's last day, and all the co-workers just cover the guy with all sorts of food. Seeing this happen live would be even better!
Glad you found a video - really surprised there aren't more online. It seems they regularly picked handsome young men for the pie scene. That would totally be my dream job - to pick cute guys to take a pie in the face several times a day (and having it video'd). A shame this no longer exists.
