I've had a Sony Cybershot for ages...I primarily used it to the side of me in the tub as a secondary angle camera for sessions. Snapped a couple pictures here and there and fucked up the camera with the my messy hands in the process multiple times, probably got water all over it too...I've been able to clean it and get it working again haha...up until today.
Camera didn't focus right when it was video taping, and the pictures all came out blurry. Total disappointment because I thought I was getting some decent messy pictures this time around as opposed to just video. Yuuuuuuuup, that didn't happen.
It's been close to 15 years, so I think it's time to retire this thing and get something new.
Any one have an recommendations for a cheaper digital camera that still does the job? Something I could pick up on Amazon? Just a point and click that takes good pictures, decent video? Not like a 1k plus Canon or something lol, I'm on a budget, and not a professional I wouldn't want to completely destroy that...do they make anything with remotes? Some kind of a protective box that still allows you access to the buttons? I think they have them for underwater cameras? Not sure if you can just roll video with that or how you have access to buttons? I never know what to get looking on Amazon because reviews are so mixed. You got one person saying it's a great camera, another saying it's shite...
Most people just use their phones these days for pictures, and honestly they probably take better pictures. I don't have smart one though, still use a flip phone . I do have a fancy iPod that does most smart phone stuff, but the trouble with that is video is a pain in the ass to transfer to my computer with constant upload failures. I've spent hours and hours and hours in the past, it gets near 95% of transfer and then it errors and you have to start all over again, restart the iPod, restart the transfer and hope that you luck out eventually getting it to transfer, it's really worrisome. I have a cheap blue tooth remote for it, so I can take pictures without having to touch the thing, but I really hate having to use the iPod and risking it potentially getting damaged because I use it every night at work and in my car for my tunes.
Another thing, a lot of people have OTHER people running the cameras, so I'm looking for something I could run myself because I don't have anyone to help with that...not going to ask a stranger lol and I'm not in a relationship and don't really plan on being in one any time soon, unfortunately...or fortunately? Depends on how you look at it I guess, but that's a whooooole different bag of somethings....

Get yourself one of these. Really good still image quality, pretty decent video, and it's waterproof, drop-proof and just basically pretty tough. It has bluetooth and wifi so you can transfer to your phone easily.
I've been an active photographer for what seems like ages, and I've always loved gear exploration. This particular piece of kit is super helpful.

It depends on a number of factors:
-Do you plan on doing video? If so, what type of quality video? 1080P? 4K? Keep in mind, the bar is slowly moving forward to 8K as streaming becomes more of the primary viewing source in most homes, which means the industry will follow suit.
- iPhone and smart phone photos have their caveats. Most notably is their limited range and function. They, more often than not, lack an optical zoom and unless you get something within the past year or two, lens options can be hard to come by and still only do so much.
- Do you plan on using this camera for more than just shooting WAM based content? I started in photo and moved up to video. Having said that, I don't just shoot fetish content. I shoot glamour stills, Wildlife, landscape, macro, events and whatever else I feel inspired to do.
There are dozens of DSLR camera packages that run under the 1K range that offer 1080P video recording, a standard 18-55mm lens, case, and all the stuff needed to get started like the Canon EOS 2000D/T7 and you can get the Canon BR-E1 remote to operate Auto focus, wide and tight (if zoom is supported) and shutter. Packages by other brands like Nikon or Fuji are available albeit at a slightly higher cost
For a great all purpose shooter, Mirrorless is a great option BUT the cost is higher. You get 4K recording without the recording restrictions virtually at every level BUT there is still a debate on whether Micro four thirds (MFT) will be sticking around since Sony and Panasonic are offering full frame mirrorless with larger sensors and better low light performance without the lens restrictions. That being said, there are a few like Panasonic Lumix that are great for starting out.
Both these camera options give you a wide array of benefits such as choosing your media type for recording and storage, lenses, filters, image stabilization and if you so choose, you are not limited to what you can shoot and can buy optional lenses based off your choices. When you want to upgrade, Sell the camera body, keep the lenses and use those lenses with your next rig.
