I ordered a 3-pack of the Gunge Shop deluxe gunge a while ago, and having used it all, thought a review was in order. As a background, in the past I've used mud and cake batter, but this was my first experience with purpose-made WAM material. I'm also male, which will come up. On to the review.
Ordering through eBay was as simple as eBay always is. International shipping took about 2 weeks from UK to the US, so order in advance if you need it for a special occasion. Packaging was a bubble wrap mailer with the gunge powder in zip-style sandwich baggies inside. Nothing leaked.
Instructions in English were easy to follow, covered mixing and cleanup, and included a phone number in case you need help. The short version was, -measure water -add powder while stirring -stir until it thickens, <5 minutes Super easy.
The gunge itself is brightly colored and opaque, but goes translucent on skin. The smell is mild, and slightly chemical. The taste is... unpleasant. I do like getting cake batter in my mouth and this just makes me spit.
The gunge feels wonderful at a variety of thicknesses. The instructions call for 8-10 liters of water for a pack of powder (~300g), which makes a VERY thick gunge that pours, but sticks to the skin without dripping or flowing a lot. That was my first pack. With the second, I went for 10-11 liters of water - still very thick, but getting closer to how I'd like. With the last, after getting a bigger bucket, I used 4 GALLONS (~16 liters) of water and got great pouring and dripping with little sheets when you pull you arms away from your sides. I think the sweet spot is around 14 liters/300g, but it's very adjustable to individual taste.
The gunge does seem to cool more quickly than a bucket of water would - I could guess why, but this isn't a science forum. Use water warmer than you think you'd like.
As a note, gunge is really, very, ridiculously, REALLY SLIPPERY. I suppose that's part of the appeal, though. Triple check your footing. My tub has a textured bottom and it's still dicey. I like to use a toy with my WAM, and it pops out if I'm not holding it in.
Cleanup is super simple - flush with water and it goes down the drain. If it sticks to the skin too much, gentle agitation - like you're scratching an itch - gets it off. The more water you mixed with in the first place, the easier it is to wash off. I used an old bathing suit with one pack and it came out in the wash, but the netting inside might be slightly tinged.
Final thoughts: Gunge powder is better than cake mix in almost every way I can name except 2 - you can't get it at the store and you don't want it in you mouth. Otherwise, it's great, and worth paying for/waiting on shipping.
Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed our gunge.
We have always aimed to provide ample powder so you usually always get more gunge than our suggested 8 to 10 litres per pouch.
The new deluxe Gunge is more foamy so has air bubbles in the gunge, this is what gives it the opaque and creamy feel. This is probably why it cools quicker but just maker it a little warmer solves that.
Shipping to the US is done directly by Ebay so can take a little longer than we'd like. In the UK, you can also have your Gunge delivered to any branch of Argos to collect saving you waiting in for the postman or somebody asking what the package is
For those interested in our ever varied research into Gunge we are currently looking into a batch of "Lazy Gunge" . If all goes well you should be able to just add the powder to a bucket of warm water with a quick stir and leave it to dissolve. Another quick stir once dissolved and it should be ready to use. For us, this is going to be ideal for the Dunk Tank as it won't need continued mixing. Also for producers on a busy shoot you can just add the powder to lots of buckets, carry on with the next shoot and then just give a quick stir as you are ready to use. The first mini batch went well although it did take a while to dissolve. Hoping to collect the first trial batch tomorrow which should be quicker to dissolve.

Obviously, you should get your own bottom textured.
therecanbeonlynone said: I tried my first batch of this yesterday and was very pleased with the results! Much thicker than the usual natrasol I get (that I still like), and it mixed very easily with little to no lumps. Oh and it looks amazing in florescent yellow!
Edit: oh and the argos collection thing is really damn handy
Glad you enjoyed it. It is essentially still normal Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose which is also the base chemical for Natrosol, its just a different grade that provides a more foamy and creamy texture, because of this its also thicker. You can use more water for a runnier slime that is still opaque though. We are also hearing its easier to clean off than normal gunge as well.
