Does anyone else here enjoy creating a unique substance to wam with? I realize that many people prefer the same thing all the time, whether it be pies, green slime, mud or whatever. Some like variety which is also cool. But my personal preference is to create a substance that is new and unique. (and very messy)
For example, I will combine a product called Yuck, which is a long chain liquid plastic polymer, with shaving foam. The result is a stretchy, stringy version of foam, somewhat similar to marshmallow fluff. (but much more affordable)
More recently, I've discovered the perfect mix of guar gum, xanthan gum and water to make slime. I have a one-litre mixer and can have colored (or clear) water spinning in it, and add three tablespoons of guar gum and as it mixes, add a tablespoon of xanthan gum. After about a minute of mixing, the result will be a very nice slime with a great texture, thick and slippery. Adding more of the powders will make it thicker. Adding a touch of Yuck will make it stringy and stretchier. (and more slippery) Since such little product makes so much, it is affordable and you can make a large amount if you have a big blender. In fact, a person can make different color batches of it for a fun multi-colored experience.
At one time, I was using flour and water and learned that replacing half of the water with either baby shampoo or cooking oil would prevent the mixture from sticking to hairs and becoming a pain to wash off. My next experiment will be to mix this stretchy thin flour/oil batter mix with the xanthan/guar gum mix to create a uniquely thick and stretchy mess.
So my question is, am I alone in doing this, or is anyone else into trying new combinations? We've all seen colored slime with shaving foam added afterwards, but what about pre-mixing large quantities of strange new substances?
