For those who don't know, I'm a proud Clemson alum and lifetime fan.... It has been a LOOOOOONG 35 years but last night, we finally won the National Championship again! And with one of the all-time epic finishes of any college football game EVER. (If you missed it, um... Look online right now. There's some stuff written about it.)
So come celebrate with me today! All 3 stores have everything 15% off... No minimums, no limits. Enjoy and GO TIGERS!!
To show my age I remember Clemson's national title in 1981 because Tulane U my Alma matte played them the toughest game that year losing it 13-5 in the Superdome

Lenny, the 1981 championship run was ALWAYS in everyone's mind when I was a student! My freshman year we had the indignity of losing to UVa for the first time ever.... albeit a UVa team which got ranked #1 later that year. (Only UVa team to ever do that?)
ANYWAY... That was a 10-2 season and we fell off hard in the years after... until Dabo took over. Five seasons of 10 wins or more in a row now. Not bad for a QB coach with no head coaching experience at all, who becomes interim coach and keeps the job after beating South Carolina, and winds up winning the NC by beating Urban Meyer and Nick Saban back-to-back!!

Yep, I remember it as well, though I was only thirteen at the time.
Clemson was known then for their dominant defenses.
And yes, Rich, the Virginia Cavilers were #1 in the country one time and one time only, I believe. Now, their football teams sucks. They have a very good basketball team now.
However, I don't think Virginia was #1 in football in 1981. I seem to remember working at the time they were tops in the country (I saw one of their games at the place I worked at), and I was only 13 in 1981.
EDIT: I was right. The first time Virginia had a #1 ranking in College football was in 1990. That is later than I thought. I remember now. That was the year the Georgia Tech Bulldogs were co-National Champions.

Oh, my! If I'm older than JediKnight, then Yoda I must be.
I'm not familiar with about collage football or Clemson but I was going to purchase SS152 Scene 3 in a month or so but then a historic victory happens and then a sale happens. I don't know how much science goes into a scene like that but the results are really phenomenal, I'll gather my up thoughts later and email them to you and also do get the full edit if I've bought the complete volume?
So thanks Rich for supporting the Clemson's for all those hard fought years and Clemson for breaking that streak! (but mostly Rich!)

Yep, and those were the only two games we lost that year: UVa and GT! All in all, a solid season. But we wouldn't get back to that point until... 2012... I think that was our first 11-win season since the 1980s, and we knocked off LSU and Les Miles in the bowl game.

Haha... College football is fun but it's a uniquely American thing. (And even then, mostly in the South and the Midwest U.S.A.)
To answer the important question: I just sent you a code for the full edit too!

Yup, I honestly think we should thank WVU for providing us with some motivation in the wake of that embarrassing loss.
Since then, Clemson's 6-1 in bowl games... The one loss was last year, to Alabama, in the title game. The wins were LSU, Ohio State (twice), OK (twice), and now AL.
Glad Bama got beat as they have been a bit too cocky recently!!
I'm a Washington Huskies & Notre Dame fan (been a Fighting Irish fan in the UK since 1990). And was gutted the Huskies didn't beat Bama in the semis this season after the great year they've had.
Happy that Clemson shut the tide up FINALLY (as much as i'm shocked it happened lol)
Rich, as a longtime Maryland fan & had a relative graduate from College Park in 1987 (When we were still part of the ACC), the 80's were great years for both the Tigers and my beloved Terrapins. From 1981, which I was born that year through 1988, either Clemson or Maryland won the ACC title in Football (Clemson: 1981, '82, '86, '87 & '88, should have won in '83 but NCAA Probation made them ineligible although going unbeaten and the Terps ACC titles in '83, by default by beating North Carolina, '84 with the memorable comeback against now current ACC member Miami & '85 where we played our current division rivals in the Big 10 East, Michigan with Jim Harbaugh as QB as well as Penn State). Like Clemson, the Terps always beat U-Va. as I was growing up, for us it was from 1969 through 1987 and beat the Wahoos to clinch the '84 & '85 ACC titles. I was pulling for you guys because of ACC history & wanting to see someone else win. You guys earned it. Someday, Maryland, will win a NC for the first time since 1953.
No Offense....Never could understand the obsession some people have with college football (apart from the cheerleaders, of course)....Sure, i went to a few games here and there, or watched a few of TV...but I could never justify wasting much time/concern or emotional energy on college (or pro) sports (and mind you, I lettered in three sports in high school and played baseball during the summers)...it was all quite weird and "cult-like" (seemingly bordering on hysteria, at times) to me...but we're all just different people.
And, well, it IS big business, of course, so, encouraging obsession benefits the business side of college life....GO (fill in blank with favorite team)!

Ironically, both Maryland & Clemson were charter members of the ACC in 1953 along with UNC, NC State, Wake Forest, Duke & South Carolina. To correct Jedi, Georgia Tech is not the Bulldogs, they are the Yellow Jackets & they won their NC in '90 with former Maryland HC Bobby Ross and also Rich, Clemson was the last school to win the ACC outright in 1991 prior to Florida State's run of ACC titles from '92 thru 2000 until Maryland won in 2001, our final ACC football title. Great win on Monday & I know Howard's Rock will be getting a workout.
To be clear, I wasn't part of that! I'm of the mindset that rolling Toomer's Corner should be reserved for Auburn victories only. But I can certainly understand why other AU fans would want to do it. It's hell living with these bammers all year after they win.

I remember the year GT won the NC (although it was a "split" title, they won the coaches' poll but not the AP). We played them in ATL and our amazing FG kicker (Chris Gardocki, who had 15 years in the NFL) juuuuust missed a 60-yarder at the end that would've won the game. Instead, we lost by 2....
And I remember FSU's run, because their ACC debut at Clemson was nuts. Sold out crowd of 80,000... Night game... Both teams ranked.... We took the lead with 2 minutes to go, and then Charlie Ward did to us what DeShaun did to AL on Monday night! FSU finished #2 in the nation, we finished with our first losing record since winning the NC in 1981.... which led to a looooong decade (and then some) before Dabo Swinney truly rebuilt the program.
Yeah, lots of memories good and bad.... Thanks to all for the support! Love that Clemson provided the perfect capper for the ACC's greatest season ever.
I remember Gardocki. He was a great kicker in a line of great kickers to play in Death Valley which included a virtual pipeline to the Clemson Soccer Team by way of Nigeria for kickers in the late 70's through the early 80's. I think Dabo can now be revered in the same breath as Danny Ford. Maryland always gave Clemson fits in the 70's and the 80's and a few times before we left the ACC mainly 2004, 2005, 2011 and 2013, which was our final ACC season. Those Clemson games with Georgia Tech were classics and so were the Maryland/Clemson games. Once again, congrats to your alma mater &I hope they can have a successful title defense.
