Tonight, I thought I would have a little fun. I used my cell phone to take a couple before pics of what turned out to be a much bigger messy time that I had planned! I wanted to take a couple pics of the after math but didn't want to get my phone messy. I have been entertaining the idea of trying to make a couple videos just to gauge the response. So, I was thinking about a cheaper camera that would still give me decent results. I was thinking about a Go Pro. They seem to be on the more affordable side of my budget and look like they have good results. Anyone have any feedback on using Go Pro or have any other recommendations?? I don't have anyone that can film while I play so this is a solo venture.
A GoPro is a fantastic camera for taking first-person video or placing at angles/in spaces that a regular camera can't fit into during a session. They're easy to use and the more you learn about shooting video, the more features you'll be able to enjoy (super slow-motion frame rates, focal lengths, resolutions, etc.).
But beside that, any camera cheap enough to be treated as a spare camera to get messy is going to have worse quality than your cell phone. So maybe invest some money in "mess proofing" your phone. Get a second waterproof case that you can swap out with your regular case before sessions. Keep wet wipes around to wipe off any splatter that gets on your phone. And while I can't personally vouch for their quality, there are clip on lenses for your phone that not only protect the built-in lens but purportedly provide better quality that your cell phone lens.
