My stockpile of cakes and pies has been empty for too long. It is time to start gathering up for my next new years mess where I use all the cakes and pies I've collected over several months to make a huge mess. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place I can find clearance or discounted cakes for my massive future mess? I am in the eastern USA so only stores from that area. If you can help out, it would mean a lot.
Not sure how reliable this would be, but if there are Stop n Shop locations in your area, they will sometimes have discount cakes an other baked goods both generally and after a holiday.
That's a tough one assuming you mean already made cakes. If you want dirt cheap mixes then a "scratch n dent" type store or warehouse is your best friend. Honestly, Giant is expensive (Last I was down there I think they were "Food Lion" still). Do you guys have Aldi's yet? They are hit or miss, but sometimes have cheaper stuff.
Honestly, I feel like the best solution is to make friends with someone who works in a supermarket bakery. They have to throw out so much expired food it's kind of sickening.
Ztd found one of those bulk restaurant supply store called Gordon's... I'm sure they have cake mix in bulk but we got big bags of instant pudding there for like 10 bucks, some big cans of pie fillings and they carried both Graham and regular pie crusts...
all of those are good answers , gordonfoods is great , also look for second hand grocery outlets, They will get stock the a big stores can no longer sell check them often and you can score some great wam deals. I get cake mixes from 79 cents to a dollar and they get cakes from time to time a 9x13 sheet cake for 4 dollars . I also get chef Pierre pre made pies there for like 2 bucks that are normally 5 bucks each.

In the Walmart look for the "we baked too much" cart. We got some banana cream pies a few days ago at about $2.40 each.
And the Sam's Club idea is great. But one or two tubs of frosting, dollop it out on paper plates, put some cool whip on the top. Should be nice and thick.
