I have this doubt for days, is possible live just creating content in this amazing Community? i have produce a lot of content for customers and for UMD, i think is possible but i dont have much time as producer, but i really wanted to know it from huge stores with a lot of time on this, but we on GodsOfWam enjoy our art, we try to bring you our best, and we receive always a good support from you all!
I started a poll and want to read what do you think about it, thank you!
I'm voting yes.. but.. It will highly depends on where you live.. You probably cannot live downtown a big city in US/Canada and living from WAM.. your living expense will be very high.. models will cost more as well. However there are plenty of areas on the globe where living cost less. For example there was lots of mud content made Philippines (muddypinays.com) and sold around the globe for US dollars. If off-shoring your production and living is not an option I think you can be profitable if you produce the right videos. But probably not profitable enough to be the only source of income. Producers that are living mostly on WAM production like Jayce are very few. Jayce runs everything in her business and her stores are filled with years of videos that are still selling, and with all that I don't think she's banking large.
You kinda alluded to the answer by addressing the people with huge stores. Everyone I've seen who managed to live off WAM videos turned it into a full-time job creating enough content on a consistent basis to fill HUGE download stores. And even that takes many many years to build the catalog that can sustain itself.
From a business perspective, my favorite money-off-kink site is Custom Fetish Videos, which, like the name implies, makes its money off producing custom videos. They have a good number of WAM customers but I like how their business model isn't dependent on one-off $10 downloads but significantly larger transactions from a smaller but more determined customer base. Kinks are boutique by nature so a boutique business makes sense.
To me, at least. I only do this for the hobby and would never want to make a living off it even if I could so I'm just speaking out of my rear.
mudngunge said: Well huge unspoken assumption in your question, man. Is male/female WAM the same for you or do you think of women automatically when you think WAM?
Male WAM appears to have a really low ceiling. Male WAM seems to be only better than break-even for UK/US producers. Female WAM has more content and more professional producers.
If your examples are a Colombian or FIlipino production company (MuddyPinays, ILY) Idk that your question makes a lot of sense. I can live in those countries if I work online because they're so much cheaper. So those producers can sell anything to Americans and live richer than we can. I wouldn't be able to live off of WAM money in the US or another developed nation.
Their are a few folks like Stella and thinkhard that can pull off the best of both gender in a wam way I don't think thinkhard has a store but their folks are here can do both gender wise like Wildthing all if I'm not mistaken are in the USA
But to truly make a living yeah I agree not sure that could work but I may be mistaken Seen with inflation it's just getting more expensive to produce
This has been discussed a lot of times here over the years. A majority of the larger producers have talked about how this is a side gig and stuff. I wish it were possible to make a living doing this, but I don't think it is.
To actually make a living from WAM you'd have to work it so hard it would cease to be fun. And once you take the fun out of it, WAM is seriously hard work.
As to the gay male content, years back we tried shooting some scenes with an actual gay young man a female friend got chatting to at a now-gone local nightclub. He did one scene on his own, in overalls, and another scene with her, in sexier clothes. Neither scene has sold much, which surprised me as personally, even as someone who's 90% straight, I thought he was gorgeous. I've also bought a male scene from Mr Wam, Al and Josh in matching jogging suits doing lots of clothes filling. But the infrequently of updates from the sites which do male scenes would appear to suggest it's a smaller market, unless there's some specific thing that those who've tried it have missed? What do buyers of gay male content want to see that current sellers aren't catering for?
Depends on a bunch of different things like, cost per shoot, shoot motif, male VS Female VS coed content. As a solo male wam producer I don't see much sales but thats ok as I do it more for fun then anything as I genuinely Love getting messy. Can you make a living off it ?? Not without a shit ton of work and don't expect to turn a profit from the jump. Many scenes don't sell do to the diverse tastes of the average wam consumer. Post your scenes , see what sells and go from there is your best bet its a fluid market it changes all the time.
furfg said: Male wam is usually pretty awfully done. It's usually done on the assumption of "gee I think gays like X" and its poorly prepped and poorly demonstrated. It's never been high quality, and that's why they lose the money. I'd love well done male wam, but it doesn't really exist. Sometimes I suspect the producers are usually straight people who aren't even into wam who just do something quick and sloppily thrown together thinking they'll magically make money from a "niche fetish gay market" void.
I would disagree with this - all the major male WAM producers I can think of (SplatHQ, The Danger Zone, Gungemad, SlopTV, Quizbob) are run by gay guys who do a good job, know what they're doing and have a good sense for what their audience likes. Maybe male WAM producers in the US aren't as good on the whole but here in the UK we have a really good male WAM selection.
I am going to have to go with voting "Yes", with the qualifier that your particular niche of the fetish does NOT involve being covered in highly corrosive toxic acidic industrial compounds, or involve being soaked in gasoline while taking a birthday cake to the face with the candles still lit. If that IS the case, you may well not live while doing it.
Depends on your cost of living. how much it costs to do the shoots, and how you price them/how many people purchase them.
It never hurts to diversify to mainstream porn and other fetishes if producing is what you want your job to be. Sit down and see how much you need to make per year or per month on average to justify making this your full-time job.
Do you have other sites to advertise your stuff on like Twitter or Reddit to expand your visibility?
You can also sell your content and offer customs on multiple platforms, too. Most WAM stuff is allowed on other download sites and could bring you more people interested in your work.
