Hello, Are expired cake mixes still good for messy purposes? A local grocery store has expired cake mixes for half off or less. (Why they are selling them expired, I'm not sure.) I'm thinking of trying some, but don't want to get sick or anything like other expired food can do people. Thank you kindly.
There won't be any food safety issues with cake mix that's past its expiration date. It's a shelf stable product, so it can't make you sick like expired potato salad could, for example.

My wife and I have bought shelf expired goods to wam with all the time, or some times if there is a good sale we'll stock up and won't get to it before it expires, either way I think you're ok.
