I'll be using cake batter e.g. Betty Crocker cake mix in a session with my gf very soon but I have a few questions about preparation. Also if anyone has any ideas for a slime recipe using ingredients commonly available in Canada please feel free to contribute!
1. approximately how much slime in ml would one box of cake mix (432g) yield?
2. Recipe says to use eggs, are there any alternatives?
3. If we have to use eggs, is it safe to swallow some of the slime?
4. Will a hand whisk be enough to get it smooth?
5. Will warm water work as well as cold for the mix?
I've got a few pointers. IDK how much you're going for, but let's say she loves it, so next time, you're gonna go big. It all works to scale anyway:
Fuck the eggs. Completely unnecessary. You can also get a much smoother texture if you just give the dry mix a quick sift with your hands and break up the larger chunks. Hand mixing will work, or a small beater, but bear in mind after about 10 boxes, your arm's gonna get tired. Also, mix in small batches, and add to the pile as you go. I also use a glurg of cooking oil as well, as it both gives a little slimyness and helps clean-off (it is mostly flour, after all). Add water as you go to get the thickness you want, but warm, NOT hot. The shit will actually cook the batter as it sits there.
In regards to brands, Duncan Hines and Betty C are pretty similar, but steer away from the ones that have tiny nuts or cherriy bits - that granular shit is annoying. I've found Dr.Oetker mix is the gold standard [if they sell it in your province/city/hood] for the most important categories: mixing, fucking, and cleanup. You can go dollar store/wal-mart generic brand if you want, but they're kind of inferior in at least one way or another.
Have a cleanup plan. Batter can be a pain in the ass if it dries, so have a clear route to the shower. Most of it can go straight into the garbage bag, so while it does wash off, the less to go down the drain, the better.
Four or five boxes will get you one small sized cleaning bucket, or one pour/sliming. That's just small enough to still be manageable by a hand mixer but we go on the high end with five boxes and our buckets are a little more narrow/deeper so I actually use my corded drill with a mortar mixing attachment (take one hand mixer attachment and make it industrial sized). Seems overkill but it speeds things up tremendously. Not necessary by any means though. We also make prep and cleanup a thing and we both get into each one just like we do the mess/fun part. I think Duncan Hines Blue Velvet has the most amazing texture, pourability, color, etc. Classic white with food coloring will give you the slime color of your choice. Add warm water to make it feel nice (no eggs), mix 4-5 boxes per bucket to the desired consistency and enjoy. It can sit a little bit so you don't have to rush. And it's sugar and flour so I've never had a problem with cleanup even when it dries. Water melts it away quickly. Good luck and enjoy! It's our favorite, hands down. If you have any questions PM me. Pic below is what five boxes of Blue Velvet look like.
I personally never put eggs in the cake batter since I am not actually baking it, I feel that would be a waste and expensive too! I normally use five boxes for like one small bucket (like what you'd use for washing a car) and just get the cheap Walmart brand stuff, its like 78-89 cents for a box. I like to put about 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in as it makes it easier to clean and gives a cool shiny/slimey look, then I just mix in warm/hot water until I have the consistency I'm looking for. I normally just buy plain white mix so I can color it with whatever color I want using food coloring (green, pink, etc.) I can normally get about 4-5 buckets of slime for $20 if I get everything at Walmart. I hope that helps!
