Just a bit more history for those who weren't around....
I "discovered" WAM in 1995. Before that I assumed I was the only one. The first website I discovered was MessyFun.... and the late Rob Blaine would send you a catalog with videos from other producers like SSS (which was Mark who also did WAMTEC) and Splosh! (the UK guys run by the late Bill Shipton).
There might've been other producers, but those were the "big three" as I recall. The cost of making videos back then was super pricey, and to make their investment back, they would sell videos that basically combined all types of WAM.... So, in an hour-long VHS tape that cost you $35, you'd get a couple wetlook scenes... A mud scene.... A foodplay scene... And usually one pie scene. ("Ariel's Pie Shop," for instance, which is the famous MessyFun one, was sold on a videotape with 5 unrelated non-pie scenes.)
So buying videos was a big investment! And your particular tastes weren't exclusively catered to. I was just amazed that ANYONE was making videos specifically about hot women getting messy though... And for most of us in the WAM audience back then, that was the prevailing attitude.
I think the sea change really happened after I discovered WAM... Certainly in the next 5 years up to 2001. Messygirl started her website (and selling videos) in 1997. Robby and WammaLammaPie did pie-only videos shortly after... Phoebe came along and blew up in a BIG way... and the UMD came along in that era too. So now you had a second tier of amateur folks selling their videos.... which was just accepting $$ by mail and dubbing VHS copies, but it worked. I'm sure that mud-only amateurs and wetlook-only amateurs began doing their own thing as well. And the big producers were still making BIG videos too.... Basically everyone was coexisting, niches were being served without a glut of product, and the community seemed to be growing weekly. Good times!
