Hello all, looking for a few suggestions here. What are the best store bought pies that produce the maximum mess? I'm open to frozen, bakery fresh, whatever. This isn't for a big production, rather just some recreational self pieing and possibly a rando pie convert. I am in the Los Angeles, CA area so I assume that will take out any UK or other nations favorites. I'm also open to making my own pies which I've done before with the help of big cans of pudding from Smart and Final and dollar store pie tins. No such thing as a bad suggestion. Appreciate ur time and attention.
Chief Pierre are not bad , look for the chocolate chip cream pie , strawberry cream pie and banana cream pie , Avoid anything with Meringue as its super thick and sticks to everything. Also avoid any traditional or classic style fruit pies they are too dense and are really for eating. Make sure you let them thaw all the way they tend to stay frozen in the middle for a long time even out of the fridge. I keep an eye out for them when they are on sale or when the second hand grocery outlets get them. As for making your own pies there is no cheaper alternative than cake batter, you can get cake mixes for a dollar some times less, simply mix them with water to your desired consistency and fill your pie tins add cool whip and you have a very messy pie. I also suggest adding food coloring to vanilla cake batter for pretty colored pies. You can also sometimes find cake mixes that are already colored. Also mixing colored frosting into white cake mix makes stickier colorful pies. For maximum splatter use spray cream instead of cool whip but be warned it goes EVERYWHERE as it melts at room temp.
Mhop, ur the man. Great info and insight on all of this. I do appreciate you taking the time. Hopefully this thread helped a few of us out there. Off to the market then.
