I've found a few searching on Google and You Tube but want some expert opinions...looking for non-Borax ideas and simple is better. And it has to be green! Thanks in advance.
Dump a packet of corn flour (corn starch) into a bucket.
Add a little cold water, just enough to cover the corn flour. Mix it all about so its all dissolved.
Add a couple drops of food colour to turn in green (or whatever).
Boil a big kettle full of water. While stirring the liquid, pour in the hot water (don't get burnt!). It should thicken magically! Add in some more (cold) water and stir to get to the consistency you want.
Let it cool, stirring occasionally (might thicken slightly as it cools - just add a little more water if its too thick). Make sure its cool before use (it will hold heat longer than water)!

Since then we've used loads of it and never had a complaint. It's about half the price of using custard, or if you're wanting a huge quantity to fill a paddling pool or the like there are bulk options too.

Our easy to mix gunge does take the hassle out of trying different recipes. You just need to add the powder from each packet to a bucket of warm water and mix. Prices start at just £10.99 for 3 buckets.
If you are on a tight budget we are currently clearing our stock of Xanthan Gum gunge at just £5.99 for 1kg / 70 litres. You need to use an electric mixer or blender but you can still get excellent results.
