My understanding is that molasses is basically interchangeable with treacle, which is one of my favourite WAM substances.
It looks like larger drums from 25kg and up can be purchased for much cheaper than shop bought treacle, giving you more for less.
Has anyone tried this, and does anybody know any good UK suppliers?
I've only used the catering containers of Lyle's black treacle, but talking to friends who've used the agricultural stuff, it tends a little less thick than Lyle's, and some people have a problem with the smell. I'd still try it, but that's me.
I've used some containers of it over the years. It's definitely nowhere near as thick as treacle - the smell wasn't terrible though. I got it from a local farm shop that catered to horse owners.
It works as a substitute but isn't as good as proper treacle.
