Hey everyone! So I don't post really at all though I'm here lurking all the time, but I've just been really curious about this particular question. A little backstory first. I ordered a custom video in the beginning of April (the 6th I believe) and have still yet to receive anything. Now I'm not trying to turn this into a thread to talk badly about this producer (thus why I'm not naming them) as they've been quick and helpful in response to my questions and I haven't had any problems getting hold of them. I truly just think this has been a few cases of bad luck with models dropping out/rescheduling and simply life getting in the way.
The question I was curious to ask was, how long do you believe is reasonable to wait for a video that you've paid for? I've bought a handful of customs in the past from 3 or 4 different producers and this is definitely the longest it's taken from payment until receipt. Obviously you can't expect it done the next day, but when does it cross the line into becoming an issue of a video taking too long to film?
I really don't have too many qualms about this situation I'm in right now and don't want this thread to turn into that, was simply curious to hear the opinion both of customers who have commissioned videos in the past and producers who have made them a reality. Thanks
I would say 2 months is the MAXIMUM amount of time I would wait before I begin to feel ripped off. You also have to consider what you are asking too. If you want 2 SPECIFIC models, that means the producer and those 2 models all have to be free the same day. Not easy to do sometimes.
We have a standard policy that once a customer has paid the 50% deposit, we will shoot the scene within three months or refund the money. In some cases things have taken longer than that with advance agreement from the customer, but in general we always deliver in less than that.
The most common issues to come up are either models not feeling well enough to shoot, or for outdoor scenes, the weather failing to co-operate for months at a time. Our basic rules for outdoor shoots are air temperature over 20 degrees C and not too windy (to minimise wind chill) and trying to combine that with model availability plus me being free to film isn't always simple.
That's a really good question. Also a really difficult question. I guess its not helpful to suggest discussing timeframes during the negotiating process, but ideally that's when timeframes would be discussed. So much depends on the details of your custom. Does the producer need to order or make costumes or sets? I don't think there is one reasonable time for all customs to be made in. Simple stuff with one model should be quick. Involved scenes with lots of specific models / costumes / sets / scripts would probably take much longer. The point of your post is that YOU feel it has been too long, and you are asking if that feeling is reasonable. Without knowing all the details of your custom I'd say trust your feelings and simply ask the producer when they anticipate delivering the custom to you. If its not reasonable in your opinion, ask for a refund.
I will admit due to personal reasons (mainly due to my mental health) I have delayed starting customs for some people. I've only ever given a full refund once, as it was impossible to complete - but I do my best to continue talking to customers while they're waiting. I send regular emails or we chat over a service like Discord or Skype.
