"Hi, I'm Hannah Hobbes, and welcome to 'What's Hannah Gotten Into?' This week I'll be reporting from Castles and Coasters, Phoenix's very own amusement park, where a new expansion is underway. Stay tuned and see how I've gotten into testing one of the new rides, "The Escape of the Lost Dutchman."

The screen dissolved into the title credits which opened Hannah's regular segment, a series of three to five second clips from past shows which showed Hannah falling in the mud at the Renaissance Festival, getting hit with five pies while sitting at a table in a bakery, trapsing through a muddy field wearing a prom dress, and working on some sort of underwater light fixture dressed in jeans and a yellow polo shirt. The final brief clip was Hannah standing thigh deep, fully clothed in a fountain, waving to the camera with a lopsided grin on her face as torrents of water crashed down on her and the logo to her segment faded into view on the TV screen.

The picture quickly dissolved into Hannah sitting in a round amusement park style raft next to a pretty middle aged woman who was wearing a royal blue Castles and Coasters t-shirt tucked into a pair of what looked like tan Dockers. Hannah herself was dressed, as always, in her main sponsor's clothes, this time consisting of a Valley of the Sun Outfitter's long sleeved t-shirt and dark blue jeans. Her burnt orange colored t-shirt had VSO's logo, a yellow sun setting between two purple mountains displayed across her chest. Both ladies wore white sneakers.

Hannah looked into the camera and began her report, "I'm here at Castles and Coasters this week with Emily Turner, the lead architect and chief designer for this new section of the park. What can you tell us about this new addition to Castles and Coasters, Emily?"

"Thank you Hannah," Emily replied, her short brown hair shining in the sunlight. "I'm extremely proud to be associated with this addition, the first time our park has expanded in over twenty five years. We've added new games, rides, shops, and restaurants, all based around some of our very own history here in the valley, in particular the legend of the Lost Dutchman and his mine."

"Interesting," Hannah said, "And I'm sure our viewers have noticed by now that the scenery behind us is moving. What will we be doing today?"

"Today, you and I have the honor of making the last few certification runs for a ride named 'The Lost Dutchman Escapes!' It's a river rafting ride, and this is the loading and unloading area, which rotates along with the rafts. We're going to test the ride under three different conditions. For our first run, the pumps are turned to their lowest setting and the water level is also set to minimum, which we'll use in the winter and early spring when the temperatures are cooler. Are you ready to get started?"

"Let's do it!" Hannah agreed, and with perfect timing the raft reached the end of the rotating boarding area and was set free into the river. The raft made a quick dip and a small splash barely broke between a couple of the empty seats. As the women and the raft made their way lazily down the river, Hannah looked to Emily, "You say this is the lowest setting?"

"Yes, but there are still three soak zones, along with a number of twists and dips that can produce some splashes. That's the fun of raft rides: there's a randomness to them. Sometimes no one gets very wet. Other times everyone can get drenched. Most of the time its somewhere in the middle." Emily stopped speaking as the raft bumped into a wall and took a sharp turn, causing another minor splash, but this time breaking right behind the ladies, lightly wetting their backs. Emily gave a little shiver, but before she could say anything else the raft came out of the turn and began ascending a short conveyer belt.

Hannah was expecting a big drop, but at the end of the belt the raft just floated free and began winding through a series of twists that looked like the inside of a canyon. Soon Hannah saw that they were headed straight towards a huge waterfall, gallons upon gallons of water cascading from fifteen feet above the river. As they got closer to the waterfall, the look on Hannah's face became more and more worried, then at the last second she saw that the raft was going to take a quick turn away from the main portion of the falling water. From the view of the camera, however, it was clear that a small portion of the raft was going to catch some of the spray from the falls. The spray hit an empty seat, the seat right next to Hannah, and there was enough mist to cause her jeans to moisten across her thighs, and she felt a few drips of cold water running into her shoes. She let out a little squeak and Emily gave her a knowing look.

"That wasn't too bad," Emily said to Hannah, "Just wait until we have the pumps turned up!" The raft rounded another bend and Hannah noticed what looked like an old fashioned mining car hanging from high up in a gaping hole in one of the canyon walls. Just a few yards further downstream and on the opposite side of the river, the camera showed a pickaxe also stuck high up into the canyon fade. "The detail is amazing," Hannah observed.

"We wanted to use real antiques, but safety concerns dictated otherwise," Emily said. "All of the artifacts are modelled directly from the real items, though." As she was speaking, the raft entered the mouth of a cave, a few little streams of water dripping from the opening down into the raft but they were easily dodged by the passengers as they passed through the cave entrance. Inside the cave were a number of scenes featuring an old prospector and his mule working a mine in the old cowboy days. After a few more twists and turns they exited the cave, again avoiding the small drips from the overhang as they reemerged into the daylight.

"Well, that about ends our journey," Emily said, but before Hannah could say anything, she continued, "Oh, wait, I forgot one thing, the Flash Flood."

Hannah had let her guard down, as the two ladies were facing forward in the current, in the virtual rear of the circular raft, and she'd learned right away that the biggest splashes came from behind when you were travelling backwards. Emily used her thumb to point backwards, just in time as Hannah and the camera both saw a large wave breaking from an offshoot of the river and advancing on the raft from behind! The wave broke over the rear of the raft, easily a foot higher than the girls' heads, then crashed down on them, simultaneously soaking the two test riders as well as propelling the raft forward at what felt like breakneck speed. The raft shot forward and coasted through a series of dips, water again splashing just over the sides, hitting them with a few more drops but leaving them mostly unscathed. But the damage had already been done.

Both girls had been instantly soaked when the Flash Flood had slammed into their raft. Their hair was plastered to their heads and their clothes were completely drenched. Hannah had a look of utter shock on her face as she held her arms awkwardly away from her body. "I was not expecting that! This is the low setting!?"

Emily laughed as she pushed wet hair out of her face. "Yeah, that's why you and I are making the test runs today. We'll have to dial that down a little bit for the low setting, but the principle is a complete success. We wanted to utilize the good aspects of a raft ride, but maybe surprise some first time riders by adding a new feature. Everyone knows that the biggest splashes hit the riders going backwards and we wanted to shake things up a bit."

"Mission accomplished," Hannah said, wringing water from her hair and chuckling as she looked down at her soaked outfit.

"You ready for our second run? I think we'll leave the Flash Flood at the same setting, but we're going to turn up the pumps to their middle settings and raise the water level a bit as well. Those changes will take the staff about twenty minutes to implement, so let's go and dry off before we make another run."

The picture faded out and then back in to show the two ladies seated as before, but Emily had a dry Castles and Coasters zip-up hoodie over her wet clothes, and she had obviously taken the time to redo her hair. Hannah, however, a veteran of quick changes in the back of the station's van had not only redone her hair, but also changed her entire outfit. The second outfit that her sponsor, Valley of the Sun Outfitters, had sent along consisted of a light brown tank top and a pair of khaki colored cargo pants. Hannah wasn't too keen on wearing just a reveling tank top, especially since Emily had informed her that they'd be getting wetter on each successive run, so she added an ivory colored loose fitting blouse from her own collection which she tied at the waist. She looked in the mirror and thought the outfit went great with the whole old time prospector theme, even giving her a bit of a Tomb Raider look. She resisted the urge to braid her hair.

As the raft rotated along with the moving loading zone, Emily explained, "This is going to be the default setting for the ride. We'll use this setting during the summer when temperatures are at their warmest." The gray hoodie that Emily had added between takes had darkened in a couple places where it came into direct contact with her wet outfit and the water had soaked through around her chest and waist.

"Okay, here we go with test run number two," Hannah announced as the raft floated free of the platform. The ride was immediately different as the raft spun faster and the dips were deeper. The splashes broke over the sides of the raft at almost every turn, and when they did, they deposited water into the raft at an amazing rate. Soon Hannah and Emily's shoes and lower pants legs were soaked through, but the frequent splashes almost miraculously missed them at every turn.

As their raft rounded on the waterfall, Hannah could tell that the water was actually falling directly into the raft, instead of barely missing it like on their last ride. Their luck held, though, and the raft spun around at the last second and the cascading water fell into the opposite side of the little boat, leaving the girls sprinkled, but relatively unharmed.

Next they entered the straightaway where Hannah remembered seeing the mining car and the pickaxe stuck into opposite sides of the canyon, but this time there was water gushing from the holes where the artifacts were stuck into the steep walls. One stream of water was falling into one side of the river and just a little further downstream the other gusher emptied into the other side. The greater amount of water in the river had given the raft additional spin, however, and as they went under the twin streams of water, the raft rotated so that Hannah and Emily weren't soaked either time. A similar fate awaited them as they passed into and then out of the tunnel. Even though the minor drips were now gushing enough water to cover half of the raft, both times the ladies were sitting in the right place at the right time to miss the torrents of water cascading into their little craft.

The picture faded out as the raft exited the tunnel, then faded back in as the boat drifted home into the rotating boarding area. As the girls exited the raft, the camera showed that they'd made it through the ride with only a few drops hitting them, other than getting soaked from the knees on down. Emily was looking into the camera and informing Hannah, "Like I said, that's the fun of a raft ride, you never know who's going to get soaked and who's going to stay dry, although I'll be the first to admit that you and I were amazingly lucky on that run. The ride is designed so that everyone gets at least a little more splashed than we did, but it happens."

"I can see how the randomness can be exciting," Hannah replied, then looked into the camera and said, "As a behind the scenes bonus, we're going to show you at home what happened behind the camera as we made that run. It turns out that one of the cameras that we had mounted in the raft shot both forwards and backwards, like a selfie camera, and while Emily and I get ready for our final ride of the day, were going to show you the footage we shot in the opposite direction from what you just saw."

The footage quickly switched to show the raft floating free of the dock once again, but this time instead of Hannah and Emily, the shot was centered on Sydney, the camerawoman and producer of Hannah's show. Sydney wore, like always, a pair of jeans and a faded black KSUN t-shirt. Her red hair and freckles were partially shielded by a white KSUN baseball cap, and she wore an open denim shirt with the sleeves partially rolled up to further protect her from the harsh desert sun. As soon as the raft took its first dip after floating free from the dock, a wave broke behind Sydney, soaking her back and landing in her lap partially wetting the thighs of her jeans.

As the raft proceeded through the twists and turns of the first part of its pathway, the waves continued to break over Sydney, from the right side and the left, as well as from behind. Soon her pants were completely drenched, and her shoes were thoroughly soaked as well. Staying true to being the professional that she was, she never missed a shot, even as the raft twisted around at the last second, sending Sydney directly under the massive waterfall, resulting in gallons upon gallons of water crashing down on her. Sydney had three cameras in total, two mounted to the raft showing different angles of Hannah and Emily, and another handheld unit, and she caught every part of the ride from at least one angle, usually two or three. Even when the force of the waterfall knocked her hat from her head, she barely missed a shot, grabbing the hat with her free hand and putting it back on her head, just as the raft passed under the entrance to the cave and she was again doused with the largest stream of water that fell into the boat and over her head, knocking it right back off again.

As the raft lazily floated through the cave, the picture showed Sydney finally getting a chance to compose herself, giving up on the hat and slicking her soaked hair back away from her face. She checked both mounted cameras, and finished as the raft emerged from the cave, again sweeping Sydney directly under the largest of the streams flowing from the top of the exit from the cave. As they returned to the bright desert sun, it was obvious that the force of the water had pushed one side of her denim shirt down her arm so that Sydney's faded black t-shirt was more visible, and it had turned a dazzling shiny black, just about glued to her. She squirmed just a little as she struggled to pull the soaked denim shirt back into place, and as she did you could make out that her faded blue jeans had turned an almost electric blue, offsetting the black t-shirt very nicely. Again, she pushed soaked hair away from her face, but by this time she was completely soaked from head to toe, and it really didn't make much difference. It looked like she was just starting to relax, tugging at her drenched shirt, and then trying to adjust her jeans where they were glued to her thighs, when there was a tremendous whooshing noise and she looked back over her shoulder to where she'd forgotten about the Flash Flood part of the ride. "Oh, come on!" she exclaimed as the wave hit the back of the raft just as she turned around to look, hitting her square in the face and drenching her all over again.

"Sorry Hannah," she said as she realized that she'd spoken while they were recording.

"No worries," Hannah replied, laughing. "We'll edit it out. Honestly, I'm surprised you lasted that long!"

Sydney just grinned at back at her, completely drenched and dripping as she reached up to adjust a camera.

Emily was laughing as the picture faded back to the present, and said, "That's what I was saying about raft rides!"

"Point taken," Hannah replied as the camera turned toward her. "We're going to give Emily some time to make a few final adjustments, then we'll be right back for our final ride on The Lost Dutchman Escapes!"

Again, the camera faded out and when it faded in again, the shot was a little more panoramic and featured Hannah and Emily as before, but now a still moist Sydney was in the shot as well. The three girls were also now seated with an empty seat between each of them, spreading them out over half of the raft. The roaring of the rapids was noticeably louder as well, even as their little boat rotated through the loading area.

Hannah had to raise her voice to be heard as she addressed the camera, "Tell us about this last run, Emily."

"We're going to run through the ride with the pumps set to maximum and the water level at its highest setting as well. These settings aren't intended to be used with the public, but Maricopa County makes us test them for safety anyway." She saw the looks on both Sydney and Hannah's faces, and continued, "Don't worry, the County requires us to make hundreds of test runs, and we've already done that, this is just to demonstrate to your viewers at home what thorough testing procedures we use."

"We've also changed things a little," Hannah took over the narrative, "as I'm sure you at home have already noticed. Sydney's firmly strapped in with Emily and me, and we've reinforced our pair of mounted cameras. That should be enough to catch all the action and still be doubly safe. Anything else we need to know Emily?"

"Are you two sure you don't want ponchos? Getting drenched is part of my job, but we've got them available if you like."

"Seems to be part of my job lately, also" Hannah replied with a smirk, "Nope, I'm good. Sydney?"

"I told you before that I'll do anything you'll do. Besides, what would be the point?" she asked as she gestured to her still very soaked outfit. She'd removed the denim overshirt and left it behind, along with her hat, which she was scared of losing.

The roaring quickly grew louder and the raft floated free, bobbing onto the churning river. It was quickly evident that this run was going to be nothing like the others as waves continuously broke over the sides of the boat, splashing the girls relentlessly. All three of them were already soaked to the skin by the time the waterfall came into view, and it was clear that the entire boat would be pelted by water. As they passed under the falls, it deposited so much cold water over their heads that it was difficult for any of them to breathe for a moment.

They came out the other side sputtering and laughing, and Hannah smiled into the camera and yelled, "Refreshing!" just as another dip in the river caused a wave to come up over the side and splashed her in the face with perfect timing. Her brown tank top was plastered to her thin frame, and the ivory shirt she'd added made a nice contrast as it hung sopping wet and very transparent from her shoulders and arms. The repeated soakings had given her tank top some weight, and although it was glued to her skin, it was also a good bit lower than when they'd began the ride, showing off Hannah's cleavage as she jiggled while the little raft was bounced around by the current.

As they approached the cave entrance, the camera showed that what had once been small and easily avoidable streams of water, was now an entire sheet of water running all the way from one side of the mouth of the cave to the other. Since it was obvious that there would be no escape from the upcoming drenching, Emily raised her hands in the air as if on a roller coaster ride, and leaned her head back so that she was looking straight up into the cascade of water as it crashed down on her. The force of the falling water was not as much as it had been under the waterfall, but it was still strong enough to push the sleeves of Emily's hoody up to the elbows on her upraised arms.

There was finally a short respite from the relentless watery onslaught as the raft serenely floated through the cave, during which Hannah addressed her companions instead of the camera, "Everyone still doing all right?"

"All in a day's work," said Emily, a huge grin on her soaked face.

"Same here," added Sydney, the sound of the next waterfall increasing as they approached the cave exit. "Actually, I think Emily was onto something back there!" And she held her arms out to her sides and tilted her head back just as they came out of the cave to be soaked again as they passed under the cascade of water that mirrored the entrance to the tunnel. The water flowed over the giggling Sydney as she passed sideways under the deluge, drenching her from left to right and running down, over, and through her red hair, t-shirt, and jeans, rewetting her already soaked body and clothes. She actually appeared to sparkle as the raft reemerged into the bright desert sun, emphasizing the dark glistening shininess of the once faded black t-shirt and the almost the glowing blue of her jeans.

"I think we may have to get Sydney in front of the camera more often," Hannah told the viewing audience as the dips and turns began to send splashes into the raft again. The little boat twisted around so that the girls were going backwards as the Flash Flood feature of the ride overtook the craft, breaking over the rear of the boat and splashing up and over the fronts of Hannah, Emily, and Sydney, soaking them one final time before returning to the rotating boarding area.

The camera faded out and then back in to reveal the trio of passengers sitting on a bench with the sign for the entrance to "The Lost Dutchman's Escape" behind them. All three of them were still soaked from head to toe, streams of water dripping from their hair and clothes. Hannah addressed the camera, "Well that was certainly more than we bargained for! I'd like to thank our producer Sydney Lake for stepping out from behind the camera and providing us with some memorable moments today." Sydney gave the camera a little wave. "And an extra special Thank You to today's guest, Emily Turner, for supplying us with an experience we won't forget any time soon."

"My pleasure," Emily said, smiling into the camera. "We hope to see you both back for our grand opening."

"That sounds like fun, we'd love to. Reporting live from Castles and Coasters, this is Hannah Hobbs. We'll be off next week, doing some filming for a new video game, but please tune in the following Saturday for another instalment of What's Hannah Gotten Into? Until then, have fun out there, folks, no matter what you get into!"
