Volleyball in the rain

Way back in 89, my Navy Reserve unit in Madison held its picnic/damage control olympics. Damage Control Olympics consisted of team competitions simulating emergency repairs that might have to be done aboard a Navy ship at sea. Such as shoring up sagging bulkheads (walls for you landlubber civilians), flood prevention, fire extinguishing, etc.... The weather held off for the competition, but as soon as it was over the skies opened up something fierce. The food for the picnic was fine under the shelter. A lot of people took refuge under it, but some us didn't let a little rain stop us from putting that volleyball net to use. Co-ed teams started playing in the downpour. The uniform of the day was our working dungarees - the light blue chambray shirt over a white T-shirt and bell-bottom blue jeans. And a lot of the females looked good in them. After the game was over and it was time to eat, the CO announced the winners of the competition and they would have head-of-line privileges at chow Sunday. Those of us playing volleyball would have head-of-line privileges at drug screening Sunday.
