Too close to the edge

It started with a simple, playful observation. The pool deck was bustling with guests enjoying the late afternoon sun, but Jase, ever the pragmatist, had arrived wearing his crisp purple checkered shirt and durable khaki cargo shorts. He'd even remembered his favorite sunglasses, which now rested safely on a folded white towel at the pool's edge.
His mistake wasn't his attire; it was standing too close to the edge while declaring that he was "too refined for unorganized aquatic activities." This comment did not sit well with Mark, his self-appointed nemesis of the afternoon's pool volleyball match.
The conversation had shifted to Mark challenging Jase's alleged lack of athletic coordination. Jase, feeling overly confident behind his glasses, stood casually with his weight shifted, scoffing at Mark's claims. Mark, sensing the moment, didn't argue. Instead, he just smiled and pointed toward a group of teens who were also wearing cargo shorts.
As Jase turned his head to follow Mark's pointing finger, Mark planted both hands squarely on Jase's shoulder and gave a single, firm push. The physics were unyielding. Jase's casual stance provided zero resistance, and he found himself in a clumsy, flailing tumble, plunging waist-deep into the shocking cold water. He had just enough time to feel Mark's triumphant laughter ringing in the air before the water closed over him, turning his "refined" look into a sodden, clinging purple and khaki mess.
